New to me ‘16 towing thoughts
Ok so I’ve put a couple thousand of my own miles on my ‘16 super crew 4x4 with 3.73s. Fuelly app says I’m at about a 14mpg average so far. I’m pleased with this. Wife and I went camping on the coast in her sisters camper already delivered and set up for us beforehand. Our mpg going down was 15.2 with a bed full of stuff, 2adults, 1 tween and two dogs. At trips end, we packed up, hooked up and delivered camper back to family (70-75 mile pull) starting with a full tank. My estimated mpg towing using the % error on all my hand calcs using the fuel mileage “gauge” gave me about an 8.5 mpg average towing about 11k. I used the manual mode and only saw 5th a few times on Long flats. I felt the truck did great. It was stable and accelerated well. I shifted up at about 3k and when cruising tried to keep the gear that allowed at least 2k most of the time. I’m pleased. We took a lot of backroads so I think had we been on hiways that allowed a steadier speed the mpg might of crept up some more.... I found out later, that I had forgotten to hook up my anti-sway bar on the wd hitch but I couldn’t even tell.... Happy.

clarkbre, i would be very interested to see the difference between your ecoboost and the 6.2 with the 3.73 since i have a similar situation with a 26' 8500lb toy hauler that i have been dragging around with a Tundra for the last few years. Have 2k mi on the new f250 but have not pulled the trailer with it yet.

Further thoughts
Update: I’m getting on up to around 6k of my own miles on my ‘16 now. Fuelly has me at 12.9-13 mpg average with towing/DD. My % towing is probably a bit higher now bc I bought my truck at the height of my “towing season”. Just finished an approximately 450mile towing vacation (9600# camper). I got 8.7mpg towing there and 8.2mpg towing home . The trip home included a pretty stiff headwind. I usually traveled between 60-65mph with OD 6th locked out. Played with CC in flats. Oh yeah, used manual mode on way up/ mostly reg w/ tow/haul home in 4th/5th....

Further Further Update
Ok so now I’ve finished another 1013mile round trip picking up our new TT. Shout out to Miles RV in Hendersonville NC for having what we wanted and being willing to deal! TT at about 6900# dry ( and before my Bride starts packing it, lol). We opted bc of the total cluster of traffic called atlanta GA to tow home over I40W to Knoxville/Chattanooga/Birmingham/Tuscaloosa and finally home to lil Ol MS. Anyone here that’s been over these interstates knows they throw a variety of terrain at you. Fuelly App says the two tanks towing home were 9.1/8.9 mpg respectively. My overall average all driving is 12.7mpg now over 7659miles.
What I did: Ran premium fuel( I think this helped both seat of pants and mpg). Pressed Tow/Haul locked out 6th and only used CC when I rested my foot. I agree with others, CC will markedly affect fuel mileage d/t the computer downshifting hard to keep mph where u set it. With Foot Control I could lose mph but arrive at top of rise in 5 (or 4...) and most times avoid the downshift to 3... Speeds were kept in the 62-68mph as much as possible. Truck pulled well, rode well, drove well and got us back home safe and sound. Really IMHO has exceeded my expectations.
