Motorcraft Ignition Wire Kit

Hey all,

I've got a 1993 F150 with the 302 V8. I am restoring it and recently got new ignition wires, distributor cap, rotor.

I installed the ignition wires one at a time replacing what was on there before. I got it all together and it seems to run quieter than before with possibly less power? Maybe there were performance wires on there before...

Anyways, I tried to line up the length of the wires as best I could to figure out which wire went where. I noticed there were numbers on the boots of the wires. This makes me think that these numbers are used to indicate which plug they go to? Any thoughts?

I also had an extra ignition wire in the Motorcraft box. That put me at a total of 10 wires. Any thoughts?

Thanks all

Yes the numbers on the wires are for the cylinders they go to. If you have less power, you may have some out of order. Check 7 & 8 first.

The numbers were 3 and 4 digits that looked like electrical ratings... I'll see if I can take a photo when I get out to the truck. None of the numbers matched up with numbers on the old wires I pulled off.

Spacers are in the mail... looking forward to tidying them up. I have read you don't want 1,3 and 5,6 next to each other.

unless you or PO changed cam to roller cam, that is not your firing order, that is for the H.O.302/351w firing order, yours is the non-H.O. firing order 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8, see below how to route them

Usually Motorcraft wires have big single digit numbers on them to indicate the cylinder number.

Not sure if it has been changed to roller cam. I'll double check to make sure that's how the wires are set up. Recently took it out to the grocery store, about a mile down the road, and right before pulling into a parking spot truck lost all power, lights and everything. Fired up eventually and made it home... did some poking around and looks like it could be the ignition module.. any thoughts?

Not sure if it has been changed to roller cams... but I got the wires organized with some spacers and seems to be running alright. I still feel that the previous wires had more power... is it possible that using performance ignition wires would make that much of a difference?

Not in my opinion. Put the old ones back on to see.

truck lost all power, lights and everything.
Ignition module is not going to cause all your lights to go out.

After some quick research it looks like they wouldn't have that much of an impact. True.

I have Motorcraft wires on the Bronco II and they are not numbered. The Motorsports wires on the F-150 are marked with the cylinder number.

Motorcraft wires are more generic Ford replacement parts. The “extra” coil wire is included to account for how the wire attaches to the coil.

Those gray wires are really not performance wires. They are stock 8mm. The Ford Racing 9mm wires are considered performance although I have had them on a 5.0 fox mustang a tbird supercoupe and a 5.8 f150 and never noticed a difference in power.
