2018 F-150 Lariat Head lamps

Just an FYI......IIHS rates the lights as delivered on the vehicle. They do not adjust them, presumably because most people don’t have the headlights of their new vehicle adjusted unless they are severely out of whack.
Perhaps having them professionally aimed would help? It might not, but it might be worth a try, especially if you can get the dealership where you bought it to do it for free.
Good luck.

It did play a role, but a small one. Not enough to pass on the truck. If you actually read, I am not complaining about my truck. My words are in general to all LEDs and HIDs making the vehicle better, not the same as halogens.
...vast majority?? Hmmm, I don't need you speaking on my behalf. I am an f150 owner...and do care what IIHS has to offer. Have a pleasant evening yourself.

Regardless of what IIHS says, I think the lights on my 2015 F150 are pretty darn good. Obviously, this is a highly subjective thing, as we all have such different opinions. The thing that's really missing from this whole discussion is why there is no "standard" as to how and what headlights are supposed to illuminate. So lacking sufficient requirements, they are what they are.

There is some difference between US and European standards on lights, and we end up with less light. You can search it out if you have insomnia. I tried to find the answer to this simple question and have given up. DOT, FMCSA, SAE, CFR, you really have to sift through those. I get the impression they are mostly concerned with mounting, and to some degree glare.
I think those LED and HID lights are a great improvement. I will have to consider at least the LED low beam when the time comes.
I'd love to have "cornering lights" like the old pillow barges had. Or the Baja setup with 2 or 4 straight ahead, one up, one down, one to the right, one to the left. Probably not going to get that past the authorities....

All I have to say on the matter i; What we have now beats the socks off the old sealed beams! Which were a marked improvement on what had come before. mainly carbide gas lights. Thank God the roads were bad and they couldn't go that fast. Had a friend with a 1910 Maxwell and we checked the carbide headlights one night, pitiful. i do agree that the OEM Leds are not worth the extra cost to get them. From what I have seen a vast majority of the replacement bulbs are much better. That said I haven't replaced mine yet but may soon, I just don't drive at night often now.

There are DOT standards on glare. The IIHS had "optimum" distances marked, but no DOT minimums.

You shouldn't read this unless you really can't sleep at night: https://law.resource.org/pub/us/cfr/...1383.1985.html

I'm pretty sure we have minimum and maximum candela requirements at various points in the beam pattern. Typically, the European spec allows brighter light at their preferred points. Both limit glare.

You can aim them yourself. It took me about 3 nights of tweaking to get mine just right. I really hated them from new. The when I got a leveling kit and larger tires installed, they were horrible. After some internet research and a few YouTube videos, I learned how to adjust them. They are SO much better now. I'm going to mark reference points on my garage wall in case I need to readjust them. They are adjusted just below the point where oncoming drivers will flash me to dim. They will be even better when I replace the bulbs with high quality halogens or LEDs.
I think that Ford installs them one way, no matter what size tires/wheels or drive configuration. Dealers don't aim them on make ready anymore. Can't even remember the last time I saw a headlight aiming device in a shop.
