Looking at buying a 2001 Ford Escape. The guy selling it says it goes a mile down the road just fine and then the transmission stops?? he shuts the vehicle off restarts it transmission works just fine until it stops again. He thinks it's an electronic issue. What do you guys think?? ask him if the overdrive light was blinking or not and he didn't know and hasn't messed with it since then. He just wants it out of his yard 500 bucks.

 

Sounds like its going into some kind of limp-home mode with no shifts - you would need to scan it to see what code is being stored for it. Could be simple, could be internal to the trans.
