I LIVE IN SOUTHERN CALIFornia where its hot most of the time ,just wondering would it be ok to run a 5w-30wt oil rather than 5w-20 wt ? i read it 5w-30 should only be used in the 3.7 V6 I have a 2008 4.2 V6 EB With 62K
Your engine could use either really, but knowing a 5w20 has a higher HT/HS and most 5w30 oils shear to 5w20 what's the point? The 3.7 engine didn't exist in your year of truck and for reference your 4.2 is not a EB.
Yes you can run 5w30 without problem. Only reason Ford even went to 5w20 in many of the engines was to try and squeeze a tiny bit of mpg out. You are doing no favors to the engine running 5w20 over a 5w30. Ford actually has been transitioning many engines back to 5w30.
ok thank you im just learning , to change the subject ,i did own a 390, and it was a great motor , just ate the gas , drove it to Alaska and i always luved that truck 1976 F250

Dude...first, welcome the forum. But honestly, if you don’t know if your motor has turbos or not, you’re way ahead of yourself in asking about oil. Stick with what For recommends and you’ll be fine.
