Angry Frustrating Wheel questions

I am about ready to start looking for wheels for my ‘66 with CVPI Swap. I would like to go with a 17” 5-spoke type setup. And here’s my questions:

What backspacing do I need to look for on the 8” on the CVPI?
What backspacing do I need to look for on the ‘66 9” reared ?
if I go with adapters on the rear, what is the thickness and I would need and how does that change the back spacing requirement?
is it better to run the adapters on the rear or on the front? And why?

Hey Dano, I have recently done the CV swap on my 65 as well. As the 65 9inch is narrow I considered adapters/spacers but I am concerned about the load rating dropping if I use a 2 or 3 inch spacer. I plan to use my truck as a daily driver, and fully intend to use it as a truck as needed. Some popular options are a Ford explorer rear axle or even a pre 03 CV rear axle as it is even wider. I am sure someone will chime in and throw some more ideas your way. I am thinking of putting my truck on jacks and setting a tire/wheel in the wheel well and measure the hub to hub to get length I need to fit 17 inch mustang wheels in there. What I can tell you for sure, the stock interceptor steel rim is offset too much for the front, it looks a little skinny. I have 2 junkyard wheels on front now, 1 cop car wheel and 1 from an older CV with a different offset. The older wheel looks better, more at home in the 65 fender.
