random no start/no crank/nothing

just remember the wheel chocks. You don’t want to be under the truck when it decides to roll off on its own. 😏
pretty straight forward install. Instructions should also come with it on how to set the neutral point etc. if not they are available online and easy to find.

Not sure if this effects automatic owners but the ignition actuator arm was an issue on mine. A pin hidden deep down in the steering column had worked itself loose and I had no start. Not an easy fix but doable.
It's easy to diagnose, pull your ignition switch (right under dash) and move it manually (should be obvious how this works). If your periodic no-start goes away, then the issue is likely in the actuator arm/ignition assembly. The key will still turn and feel normal but it won't start reliably. This is also an easy way to steal a truck in 5 minutes or less and a great reason to have jimmi-jammers, a killswitch and/or a no start tune.

ok just read this : Check for a blown fuse F13 in the under-dash fuse box. If it is open, you get the same symptoms as a bad brake lamp switch or failed harness at the switch (also very common).
If it's blown, you'd better check the status of recall 05S28 on your truck (check your VIN on Ford.com). If the recall has not been performed, DO NOT REPLACE THE FUSE until you have disconnected the speed control switch on the brake master cylinder. Failure to do so may risk having your truck go up in smoke AT ANY TIME, whether parked and off or while running down the highway.
I just checked and I do have a open recall for speed control ! I will take it in for repair, but I want to know, would this cause the random no starts ?

I know it may sound crazy but on my other truck, I would get a "Stuck in park" situation if my 3rd brake light burned out. Seems it would cause an open in the circuit.
Just a thought.
You can test the brake light switch with a small jumper wire to see if it has indeed failed. place the wire and see if your brake lights come one, then try to move out of park.

I just posted on another thread....Check that your solenoid terminals are very clean.... And I mean take them off them check BETWEEN them. I had an occasional no start as well that wasn't affected by the trans position switch and eventually I got to the solenoid. It was corroded under the terminals making for a crappy connection. A wire brush and reconnect took care of the issue. That was 18 months ago and no issues since.
