Speedometer not showing milage trans ****ing hard now

I went out today and took off in my 95 E-350 with a 7.5l engine and the milage didn't show on the instrument cluster. All my gauges showed everything was okay but the milage and the speedometer wasn't registering or showing The transmission was shifting hard and eratic. I didn't have any problems with the last time I drove it and parked it which was a couple of days ago. Any idea as what the problem might be or what I should check.

Thank you

Either the speed sensor in the rear end went out, come unplugged or the PSOM in the speedo cluster took a dump.

No odo display/no speedo usually is a blown fuse. I forgot which fuses are for the E-series vans, but on the F-series pickups usually fuse #8 and/or fuse #18 cause this.

With out a working speedometer(PSOM) sending out good speed data to the engine ECU, the E4OD transmission will shift hard as it's in limp mode. Don't not worry about the VSS sensor yet till you get the speedometer(PSOM) back working. Most likely it will be ok.

Do a search here on FTE , you will find many threads about bad/dead speedometers. Use search phrase "PSOM", that will help

had that exact problem, main reason i got my van for 300 bucks (mechanics special). checked all fuses none were blown..... tossed a speed sensor at it for the sake of being easy (didn't work) then started to eye the instrument cluster no speed reading and odometer not working. took it out and sent it to a place local to me to check the circuitry. guy replaced a couple diodes and doodads for 100 bucks, van shifts and runs fine!

Thanks everyone for the heads up. I've pulled and checked all the fuses and now I've pulled the dash panel and I'm sending it out to get checked out.
