Road Noise: Exgended Cab vs. Crew Cab

My '11 extended cab was totaled by hail and I'm about to replace it with an '18. My only complaint about the '11 was road noise. (I do recognize that I had the XL Road Noise Penalty option.)

I really don't want to have a truck one foot longer but I'd consider it if the crew cab was noticeably quieter than the extended cab. Anyone with experience with both cabs at the same trim level have an opinion they'd care to share?

thanks,,,

I test drove both cabs in 2017, same trim level (lariat) and noticed NO difference in noise. Test drives were about 20 miles on both highway and town roads.
I thought I wanted a SC but when I saw the room in the back of a CC I ordered that one. Not much of a test but at least I drove both!

I haven't drove a CC, but I don't know what road noise you'd be talking about in the SC? Mine is as quiet as can be...

I used only road tires and after 90K miles I found the truck noisy on the highway. It is an XL without carpets and probably more that might have helped. There is a thread here about slipping surgical tubing in to the door gaskets to diminish the noise which I was seriously thinking of following.

Because of all the houses and cars wrecked in the neighborhood by the hail the car rental companies ran out of cars here. My insurance company got me a so-called exotic, a BMW 740, and now I know what quiet is.

You'll be impressed with how quiet the new generation of Superduty is. I think my F-350 may be the quietest vehicle I've owned. Carrying on a conversation at highways speeds is easy.

My 2017 Super Duty is definitely my quietest vehicle. Even the wife stated such. So much better than my 2002 SD.

There's your problem. You are trying to compare a luxury performance car to a work truck.

Sorry, but I was both telling the truth and being facetious at the same time. My '11 extended cab XL

Sorry, but I was both telling the truth and being facetious at the same time. My '11 extended cab XL was indeed noisy.

I was being facetious and telling the truth when I mentioned the XL Road Noise Penalty option. There are no noise absorbing carpets.

Off topic, I wish I could get rid of the BMW rental. Due to all the cars totaled or incapacitated by the storm there aren't any "normal" cars available in ~100 mile radius. I'm more of an XL guy. Crank windows for a crank driver!

My '18 CCLB XL 4x4 6.2 is super quiet compared to my '11 exact same build.

I hope that that carries over to extended cabs too. That is encouraging.
Thanks.

My 2018 CCSB 6.7 KR is the quietest truck i have ever owned, even with the vinyl flooring. The wife and assorted passengers have also commented on how quiet it is.

Have to say that my '17 XL SC is pretty quiet. Surprisingly, even the wife commented on it being so.
