1954 Short Bus the project
#18
Great story! Sounds like some of the adventures I have been on. I'm currently restoring two 1948 F-5 Wayne school buses, so I'm pretty familiar with them. One is mine, and the other is for a friend. I'm thinking of having the extrusions made for the special rubber strips on the doors, if I can get somebody to go in on it with me. Also, the vent window molded rubber needs to be made. Call me if you are interested.
By the way, my second bus was a full size one, that we shortened up to fit on a 134" W.B. chassis, like my other one. They are all bolted together, so you can easily change them around. You can shorten yours, to make it even more maneuverable if you want to.

The vent window moulding already exists...... there is a guy on skoolie.net has a 46 wayne short... he put in new glass on the drivers vent last week, had new rubber for it from the pictures. you might have to register on the skoolie site to get access to the pictures hosted there, but you can see '46 Chevy Shorty - Page 5 - School Bus Conversion Resources The specific post with the picture of the new vent wing is #3415 -- Tango started his build in 2011 very extensive rebuild, now powered by cummins 4bt.

Supposedly "ran when parked" years ago. It's buried in the woods on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington state. Apparently the property has changed hands twice yet the bus remains. Probably still has the Detroit 6-71 with the four speed transmission and angle drive differential. Looks like there was an attempt to convert it into a motorhome on a very low budget. I understand that it's not for sale.

Did you see about the auction of trucks in new mexico? there is a chevrolet COE mixer of similar vintage. It is going to be september 8 in person and by telephone.
thought you might be interested in just looking at the pictures, a lot of that stuff looks drivable.

more stuff and possible paint scheme
I am not a fan of this kind of thing, however, when I saw it, I knew it was going on the bus. These will be the center three cab marker lights. The outer front cab lights will be simpler all amber teardrops, the rears will be the same teardrop shape, but, in red, these all came out much larger than expected.
This is one of the three center front cab marker lights.
this is a turn/park lamp, it will sit on the top of those F700 fenders. Like the turn signal/park light on the top of a 1970's vw beetle fender.
To give an idea of scale, that is a standard 8"x11"sheet of paper
one of the paint schemes I am considering
The painting I did earlier
