1993 Ford E350/7.5L -Fleetwood Tioga Montero Class C wiring issues

As the title states, I have wiring issues with my RV. Passenger brake light wasn’t working.
1. Replaced bulb. Not fixed
1.b Fuse is good. Checked ALL
2. Socket looked corroded and was aftermarket so I replaced that.
3. Found brown wire had no voltage when brakes applied. Also found that it was shorted to ground. The right turn signal
did work.
4. Prior to finding this out, I thought I could jump a wire from driver side brake light as that seemed to be working. Discovered that that light was using the left turn signal yellow wire for brakes and turn signal.
5. Found a connector between engine compartment and tail lights. Disconnected. Short still exists at brown wire
6. Checked for voltage on wire coming from engine and still had zero bolts.

I got the wiring harnesses taken off the connector from the firewall..,both trying to trace out this brown wire and I can’t find it.

Haynes manual is useless for wiring diagrams. We don’t have an owners manual for RV.

Any help would be appreciated. A wiring diagram that shows where wires originate from.

Most rv's really dont have wiring diagrams available, might try contacting the manuf if still in business or an old line tioga dealer. Easiest may be just to find the brake light source and run new wires to the rear being careful not to get too close to hot or rotating parts/pieces.

That was my plan. I’m having a hard time trying to find the source. I’ve been trying to locate that brown wire and I don’t see it in either one of the main connectors that goes in to the cab and cab fuse box.

Wher does that brown wire go once it goes to the engine compartment. I’ts a bit tough trying to trace out the wire once that bundle gets bigger and goes in to tighter areas.

Im thinking of buying a toner/wire tracer to help me in this process.

Hmmm. Brown is often used for ground. Are you sure that's supposed to be the supply?

Of course, with RVs, who knows what colors got used where.

go direct to the brake switch i8n the cab and start there with the wiring. Maybe you will see what col9ors they used at fleetwood, if not just go direct. I am fairly sure that if you get the wiring colors for a trailer light kit then you could find the wires and what they were used for. Also look for a wire diagram for the Y/M van that you have and that may be the best way to find what goes where, as I dont think they changed wire colors under the dash but may have tapped other colors in?

The toner helped. I found the brown wire and it goes to a relay that is near the driver side headlight. The brown is the load side.

The yellow wire, line side of relay, does have 12v present. the really is operational when bench testing.

Now the problem is the coil of that relay. Both black and white/green wires are grounded.

The wires to the brake light switch aren’t the same color.

The search continuesto now the white/green wire...the positive on the relay.

Problem solved. Bad multifunction switch on the steering column.

Found the correct wiring diagram on the web and was able to properly troubleshoot the issue. turns out, the brown wire is for park lamp and running lights. The stop, turn, and hazard comes from the yellow-left and green-right wires. I wasn’t getting sufficient voltage,8v, on the green wire when any of the switches were activated.
