Exclamation 1949 F5 School Bus Brake 5 socket (lines) manifold

Does anyone have for sale or know where I could find a 5 socket (5 lines) master cylinder manifold for my 1949 F5 School Bus?

Thank you,
Lisa

Welcome, Lisa!

Since my ignorance of F5s is only matched by my admiration for those who take them on as projects, let's bump this back up so the smart folk can help.

I can ask for pics of your ride, since old buses look very cool.

I purchased one years ago from Joblot Auto (which is now out of business) I understand Chuck .At Chucks trucks bought out alot of their inventory. You may want to check with him.

Ive probably got a spare one around here somewhere as well. Just need to look in the parts bin.

For what it is worth, if you have trouble locating one, you can likely plumb an equivalent with a slew of fittings:

It looks like the guys have you on the right track. I wouldn't be any help. I'm just here to say what a cool bus you have.
I have always wanted something like that. What are your plans for it?

I assume you are using a booster? No? I had the part you are seeking. It's like a cast iron slug that hangs off the end of the master cylinder. I found it to be quite problematic (came loose easily) and redundant, so I tossed it. You really don't need it anyway. All you need is a line from the master cylinder to the booster (you can tee in a hydraulic stop light switch here or use the 1/8" NPT adapter at the master cylinder, or use a mechanical stoplight switch), and then just hang a brass triple tee adapter on the brake booster to feed the two front and single rear brake lines. All of a sudden I can't find the pic of my installation, they've been deleted from my albums. Sorry. I'll take some more.

Hi Joe,

So far, we plan to keep it all original as long as everything works and is safe.

Welcome to FTE. I'm in Pasadena so we are practically neighbors. But I digress.

I can't tell for sure from your pictures, but it appears you have "Widow Maker" wheels. Very common for that vehicle, clear into the late 1960s. These are unsafe at any speed. No one will work on them.

Your 5 lug pattern will present an issue finding replacement wheels. There is a wealth of info in several threads in the "Large Truck" forum. I will post a link or two. Good luck with it!

Post 4 here is an example. Truckdog has the number on the wheel situation, and there are more threads on the subject as well.
