Bought a new 5gal gas can, perfect fit under the truck, Less chance of the fluid getting contaminated or something falling in. Also, definitely not a 3/4" OD hose like guy in the video said. Ended up having to go to the depot at 7pm as true value had closed. Didn't sell it by the foot, only 10' for $22 of 1" OD.
if you read the thread there are a few posts about the discrepancy. While I didn’t participate in the thread I think there are two possibilities for the confusion.
One is a situation of the o-ring left in place and a hose fitting to its inner diameter.
The second is many retail hoses state the ID and you can have a 3/4” hose with an OD of 1”.
Whatever happened, the latter posts clarify the use of 1” OD tube, fiber reinforced vinyl would have good resistance to closing under vacuum pull-up.
I did measure my 3/4" OD hose, because I was confused at the gap. It was actually 5/8", and the oring was closer to 7/8" making for a 1/4" gap, so I ended up taking the oring with me to find a suitable hose, which honestly I should have done to begin with.
