Good idea. Go easy with it when you tighten. Can over tighten and screw up the seal just as bad as it being loose.

Granted it's an old thread. Most folks switched to using a .45 caliber bore brush instead of the plastic rod. For that matter, you can just buy the kit with all the parts you need, a brush, and the instructions for around $50 from Bob. Oil Level Gauge Adapter Repair Kit for 1994 - 2003

Much cheaper than the $300, and no need to drop the oil pan.

Thanks! I don't know if I have a leak, but have been moving that thing around like a palm tree in a tropical storm. I'll be sure to check it.
