Misc. Wiring

Hey folks, I just got my hands on a 2010 Expedition SSV and this thing is in great condition from what I can tell. The police department it came from didn't really do a good job removing things so I'm finding a lot of hidden gems. From my understanding this is just an XLT version so it doesn't have many consumer bells and whistles. But upon taking apart the dash for an alarm and stereo install I have found a couple of wiring harnesses that don't run to any buttons. They are just sort of plugged into the back of the plastic. There is one to the left of the steering wheel under the lights that I think is the pedal mover? There is another one at the top of the dash opposite the traction/ESP button that in other expeditions look like it goes to an info button or something like that? So my first question is has anyone seen these random harnesses without buttons? Will the options work if you add the buttons? Are there any more that I should check for? The one I really wanted to see was the stereo controls on the steering wheel but there was no wiring under the blank there. Thanks in advance for your help.

So many views and no answers, lol. Does anyone know what I'm talking about here or do I just sound dumb? Should I include pictures?

I don't know about your 2010 Expedition but what it looks like is what I have seen on many cars. That is the manufacturers install wiring looms that will accommodate all the accessories for all models. They just leave the extra wires in the loom. That's why you see connectors that go nowhere. No the options will not work if you install the buttons because you need that actual device installed on the car. Sometimes they don't include other necessary wiring needed as well. Also some of those systems need a module connected into the wiring system & switches.

Under the steering wheel there is a thingie called a spring clock that conducts current from all the buttons out to the radio, heater, cruise control, etc. This thingie is so you can turn the wheel while pushing buttons. Your car may not have the right one if it was not equipped with radio & steering wheel buttons from the factory.

Also if you install a fancy factory radio that can be controlled by the steering wheel switches it will need to be programed to your vehicle.
Wish I knew more,
Richard

The SSV has the same harness as the standard XLT. This is a different harness than that used on the Eddie Bauer and Limited. The harness you have provides for options that were available with the XLT trim. You can look at a sales brochure to see what can easily be put in the SSV: basically anything offered in the XLT. For example, you could install the deluxe message center, or adjustable pedals if you don't have them. Your harness does not provide for the audiophile radio system or the woofer, or navigation but you can install satellite radio.
