Question Would this window tinting job bother you? *pics*

So I finally decided to take my old 05' F250 in to get the front windows tinted to match the factory tint on the rear windows. I looked around, and found a local place that had awesome reviews....400+ google reviews with an average of 4.5 stars. Apparently they specialize in tinting "high end" cars like GTR's, Ferrari's, Porches, etc, etc.....so that's where I took my truck. Cost me $80 to get my two front windows tinted.

They told me not to roll down the windows for 24 hours...I'm assuming that was to let the tint dry out. Well, after a couple of days I rolled down the windows...and saw this (see picture). Where they trimmed along the top of the window looks like crap....my 3yr old could have done a better job. It looks like they just free handed it. On the left side of the glass where it runs up to the top horizontal part, it's a nice and even 1/16" or so gap between where the tint ends, and the glass is. Then when they got to the radius, the tint goes right up to the edge of the glass...no gap. Then the horizontal part goes up and down....anywhere from 1/8" gap up to almost 1/4" the farther you go right.........maybe I'm just a sucker for details, but to me it looks like crap.

I know it's not a GTR or a Hellcat.....but damn, that's about the easiest part of doing tint....trimming it off the glass.

Should I just forget about it, or take it back and have them scrape the tint off and redo it all? Both front windows look about the same.

Am I overreacting?

Yep that would bother me. That’s usually the part that doesn’t get screwed up.Take it back see if they will make it right. Let us know if they fix it.

Unless they charged you $50 for the tint job, definitely take it back. Whomever let the job leave their shop like that doesn’t take pride in their work.

I wouldn’t accept that. Tell them they need to fix it.

I would go back and calmly explain yourself to them. See what they say before you start wanting to demand stuff. Its amazing how much better things work when people act civilized.

I do agree I would go back and talk to them, maybe bring a photo of what you had expected for a job, to compare to what you got.

+1. A question I always ask any provider/contractor in these situations is " if this was your truck and you got it back looking like this, would you be happy? Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

The worst part about that is the fact that it is one of the easiest cuts to make, you just follow the window with your blade, I would return for sure. Whom ever did the install hasn't done many tint jobs.

I wouldn't mess with it. Your truck looks awesome, really sweet. It'll have that peculiar quirk when you have the windows cracked but really I wouldn't change it. I also wouldn't want them pulling all that stuff off again.
now if it was really bad wavy, or wrinkles and crap like that I probably would be upset.
i would enjoy the truck and the tint and have a little chuckle every time I saw it. If I went back to the shop I would show them but I wouldn't let them try to redo it. Nor would I make a big deal out of it.

From what I understand about tinting, the cuts never go to the very edge of the window because every time you put the window up and it goes into the weatherstripping, chances the tint will start to peal away. I might point out your concerns to the tint shop but other than that, it would not bother me.

This. My truck has the front windows tinted exactly the same (the dealer apparently had it done before I bought the truck via a trade with my local dealer). It irked me a little at first, but I concluded it was likely to help prevent peeling when it hits the weatherstrip. Certainly it isn't a hack job since it is completely bubble and wrinkle free which is much harder to achieve than an even trim. This is on a '16 so 2+ years now with no peeling.

It's not about the gap...I know it needs a gap. It's how uneven the gap was cut. It goes from almost nothing on the left side, to almost 1/4" wide towards the right. How hard is it to cut a straight line?
