Hi, have just got my first ever truck, a 1984 f150 with a 351w. She is very basic and for the most part unmolested. I am is 3 owner.

Anyway the problem I am having is the tilt lock on the steering wheel is broken, i have to push up on the wheel when making any sort of turn, so you can imagine how unsafe this is at times.

i am just waiting on my bearing puller to come so i can get the wheel off, but I need guided in the correct direction.is this a common problem? Anyone who has seen or had this problem, you help would be appreciated.

That piece has nothing to do with the tilt part of the column. It does have a role in the ignition key working with the tilt. Does the handle you move to tilt wheel act like it has a spring on it. It should spring back to lock the column.
