Starting with codes and fuel pressure is proven good practice.
Sounds like a lot of threads we have had here. It seems like they are more common as time goes on and these trucks get older and more parts are trying to work past their design life.
The stalling issue has been often fixed by a new PIP in the distributor. Heat is often a factor. The shutter wheel that triggers the PIP is sometimes a problem too. The shutter wheel gets stuff built up on it that interferes with the electrical/magnetic fields, can be cleaned or replaced. I would proceed by cleaning up all your battery cable connections and grounds. Do the connections on your starter relay too. Wiggle test the fusible links coming off your starter relay.
The coil and ignition module are getting old too. There are some great threads here on these subjects. I'll post them later if I find them.

Pull the vacuum hose off the Fuel Pressure Regulator (FPR) and turn on the key with a cold engine.
The selected pump will only run for one second.
Does fuel come out of the nipple on top of the FPR?
If yes replace the FPR.
If the pump runs for more than a second or two you may have a bad PCM or its wiring.
