The PA Chapter's "Dog Days: Rainy Version" August 2018 Chat and B/S Thread

I'd assume they'll be there, not sure who all else of the old FTE crew will be. Some of them I haven't spoken to in a long time.

Yeah, it is what it is. Some issues between us and the venue people in charge at that time, and people just moving on to other interests and stuff kind of did it in. I do try to get around and say hello to those I know that are still going there and chat for a bit - hard to do on Saturday when judging takes place since I try to be with the truck when the judge arrives, but I do try. I'm sure that has caused a few hard feelings too if someone got overlooked...

It is about 13 hours to where my in laws live in Iowa then another 3.5 to 4 hours to Omaha from here.

It's been 22 years now, but when I went out there the last time it was just a straight shot out I80 once I left PA to get there. Lots, and lots, of corn to see and not much else lol. My sister lived there for a while after her (now ex-)husband left the Air Force. Fun trip - saw a tornado (pretty far off in the distance so no immediate threat), ripped up a tire outside of Joliet, IL in a driving downpour....lol.
God, 22 years now....I'm old...lol.

I know. It feels like it was yesterday that I was planning on starting to do some mods on the truck once it stopped snowing and it warmed up. That was the end of April/beginning of May when we had snow on Sunday and I put the window AC units in on Tuesday because of how hot it got.

Speaking of mods, my replacement headlights arrived yesterday and I got them in last night. The ones that I had did have an issue with the shutter opening every time when switching from low to high, especially after they had been on for about 5 minutes. They were out of stock with the ones I had and expected to get a new shipment in towards the end of October. Nope, not waiting that long so I asked if they would exchange them for these which they did.
I am not sure if I am going to leave the switchback turn signal LED bulbs in or go back to the standard halogen or yellow LED bulbs.

The lights look good. Overall, I'm not a huge fan of the switchback bulbs. Been debating putting them in the show truck just to try them out, but we'll see. With production cars using them now, I doubt the cops would get worked up over them so that's not an issue - not sure how I'd like all white light up front til I use the signals.
Know how you feel on time flying. I plan on gutting the OBS' interior after Carlisle to clean the carpet, put down sound proofing, and replace the headliner. Gonna have to move fast because winter will get here fast. I need to rearrange the garage so I can fit it inside and do stuff this winter.

To be honest, I am on the fence with them because these are quite bright and I am not sure how they would be in bad weather (ie. reflecting off of snow). With the halos and 6 LEDs underneath there is already a lot of white light. The switchbacks are on full brightness all the time in "white" mode, only to change to yellow when the signal or 4 way is activated. They throw additional forward white light that may not be necessary.
Here is a night shot with just the parking lights on.

Neil they look good in the daylight. But if that is only park lights, that is a lot of light. I would say park at the end zone and read the back side of the news paper at 50 yards!
