1977 Ford F150 Ranger Supercab

For many years I have wanted a 78 F250. I haven't actively pursued buying one because I didn't really need one. I already have a 64, 65, 67, and 69. (Plus a horde of other vehicles) I happened to be scrolling through craigslist the other day and saw a truck that caught my eye. It was a 1977 F150 Supercab 2wd long bed. One thing I never liked about some of the 78's I had run across was that too many of them had square headlights, which I don't like on these trucks. I thought I would take a chance and contact the seller on this truck and low and behold, $400 later and I now own it. It isn't a 78 F250 Supercab like I wanted, but it is close enough to cure my desire. Where the truck is good, it is really good (for the price point), and where it is bad, it is really bad. Ha. It was on the road last year. The guy claimed that he had the heads rebuilt, put in a new cam and lifters, new distributor, new carburetor, and plugs and wires, and when he tried to break in the cam, he flat-spotted one of the lobes and it has a lifter ticking. He also claimed that the trans was rebuilt just prior to pulling the heads and sending them out. I don't know whether I believe any of that or not, but for 400 bucks, it doesn't really matter. Someone had stole the key while the truck was sitting, so I never even tried to start it.
It has rust, but around here, 5 year old trucks have rust. Luckily patch panels are available for everything that is rusted. It was painted back in the late 80's, but it was originally red and white same as it is now.

I don't know if this is the factory seat or not. I thought super cabs came with split back bench seats and this one is solid. It also has a full bench seat in the back that is in very nice condition.

Was told that the engine is a 351M. I have no reason to doubt that. In my experience, most people trying to get the best from the buyer would claim it to be a 400. Kind of like how almost every truck with an FE engine in it is listed for sale as having a 390 even though the vast majority of them were 352's and 360's. The guy seemed to know his stuff about the motor, but looking at it, it just doesn't look like it has had the top end off recently. But maybe I am wrong.

When the truck was repainted in the late 80's, they taped around the door sticker and these tags around the door locks. Does any one know what "Limited Edition" means? It has this decal on both doors and you can see that it has been on the truck for a long time. I don't hold much value to these meaning anything special.

Here is the door code. If anyone can decode it, I would be grateful.

Sharp ride congrats, pretty sure the front seat is NOT OEM and yes it should be a split folder. And those key scratch guards are old off the rack stuff from a parts store/Walmart and nothing to do with anything "Limited Edition".

Thanks. It looks a million times better now than it did when I bought it. It's amazing how people can't take an hour to clean something up before they sell it. If they would have washed it up before putting it up for sale they could have gotten twice what I gave for it.

I was pretty confident that the decals were nothing real, but I had to wonder why they painted around them when it was repainted.

I remember them being VERY sticky, like pull of the paint off the door sticky, if you tried to remove them. Ask me how I know that, on second thoughts don't. Maybe some WD-40 and high test fishing string would do it. But you might have some very protected original paint and a very noticeably big difference under there.
