Do you have a pic of this oil cooler setup? so it moves the filter so it doesnt stick through the frame hole?? I'm already sold.
I don't have pics, but you could look one up on ebay. It's std equipment on the roller 351's in the vans and pickups. It mounts to the filter pad and angles the filter forward toward the radiator. It's cooled by the incoming coolant going into the waterpump. With it on the vans, you can't access the filter body on the FL1A, the FL299 extends out past the cross member so you can get a filter wrench on it.

I'll go searching on ebay for the oil cooler setup.

So, with this engine being a bit more than i originally planned, i got to thinking as i spent my hours doing the daily grind.

First off, is the camshaft i have going to be too tame? should i look at something a bit more aggressive, without getting too carried away?

Secondly, even though the truck came from the factory with speed density, maybe right now is the time to look into swapping over to mass air.

Thoughts?

Edit: i know not everyone deals in 92-96 trucks in this part of the forum, so i decided to make a post in that section of the forum to hopefully help out. here is the link:

Depends on how wild you want to get. It's going to breathe better with the heads and the cam. I would think you'll at least need to have the computer upgraded to handle the extra flow. I'm having problems with the roller 351 in my van too even with Mass-Air

As far as the oil cooler, i wasn't able to locate the exact one you were mentioning, but i think this one is a winner, not only for this build, but all future builds as well.

Yea, that'n might work too, you'd need to check your truck to see how it would fit though. I believe that's the Explorer angle adapter. I'm running a 429/460 angle adapter on the 331 in my 77 Comet that points the filter straight down (vertical) instead of straight off the block.

Look up on ebay: oil cooler adapter for a 460 casting number E7TE-6884-JA. This is like the one on my Comet only it has the cooler line fittings where my adapter is blank

I'm still staring at camshaft specs... i cant find anything i really like. I have, however, decided the factory EFI is going, there's no reason to work around that, when i can get a FiTech setup for less than i would have in a mass air conversion.

So, please, shower me with camshaft knowledge!!

You need to figure out what the static comp ratio's going to be, before choosing anything. If it's what I think it will be, the stock cam ain't gonna like 87 octane fuel, maybe not 89 either.

I've already come to terms with 91 octane only fuel. if i wander too far out and about, i'll have to carry a gas can...

I would still figure what it is, being a dirt track short block and dirt track heads. Might be 13 to 1 And then you may need avgas to run it

9.75:1 compression is what he calculated it out to be.

So, as always, the plan keeps snowballing. i have decided to send the E7 heads to another project, and step up to running a set of aftermarket Aluminum heads. I've also decided on a Comp XE270 camshaft. and finally, I decided that the stock EFI was going to be cumbersome, that converting to Mass Air was going to be pricey, and still a bit cumbersome, so I decided to run one of the "drop on top" self learning EFI setups. That led to this purchase.

I've wanted an RPM Air Gap for years, this one just came up locally for a great price. he bolted it on, but never ran it, its had some port work done, and the divider wall has been cut. It looks so damn pretty.

I also ordered my Comp XE270 cam tonight.

Things are coming together!!

I'm envious! Your engine is coming along faster than my engine project.
