OT Can You Believe this was Acceptable

Browsing fleebay I ran across this. It’s hard to believe these were accepted for towing cars and trailers back in the day.

Indeed. And now we know why we see such bizarre damage on old cars and trucks that seemingly has no logical explanation.

I have one just like that. It was my late father's. He towed a 12 foot boat behind a 1964 Ford Galaxy before he got his 1950 Ford F1 I am fixing mine to look like. I learned to drive in this truck. It's in my signature at top left.

Look on the bright side, it had multiple mounting holes for the proper trailer height adjustments. Wow.

Just the tip of the iceberg.

If we are going down the road of what used to be allowed and what is now and how the generations differ growing up this could be a long post. We rode bikes and motorcycles with no helmets. Skates with no padding. Rode in back of pickup trucks on highways. Carried guns in our trucks. I even took a japanese rifle from WW2 to school for show and tell. OOPS did i just show my age?

I worked my way thru high school at a rental and supply place, and had to install many, many, clamp on hitches. It was the norm back then.

My Dad pulled the 27 foot house trailer that we lived in with a 1950 Mercury. I don't remember the hitch, but it was probably a little more substantial then the one we are discussing. The Mercury was the only new car my Dad ever bought. A drunk driver hit it while it was parked, and my Dad switched to Oldsmobiles.
