What MPG do you get when hauling your TC ?

Please share with us what truck you have, and which slide in truck camper?
Normal seed when hauling TC . Also what MPG does your truck get empty?
I'm interested in all trucks, all campers, 1/2 ton on up, gas or diesel .
There is a ton of truck MPG info on the internet but I couldn't find much on MPG when hauling a TC .
Thanks

I have a 2016 f250 4x4 6.2 gas hauling a 2016 palomino hs 8801 with a fully loaded weight of 3600 lbs. At 60 mph I average 11.5 mpg. When the truck is empty I average between 15 and 17 mpg. This is what I have found after 50000 miles of traveling cross country with the camper on the truck. Over 60 fuel mileage drops to 10 mpg.

1990 F350 dually, 460 gas and ZF5, 4.10 limited slip. At 10,600lbs at 55 mph he gets 10.5 mpg, at 60-10, at 65 it drops to 9, Empty between 12.5 to 14.5. This is over 50,000 miles and towing a car behind it has no effect on mileage.

11.8 mpg on a recent 1200 mile trip. Taking it slowly (around 90 kph / 55mph). 2014 F350 XLT SCLB 6.2, 3.73 axle. Tow/haul mode active all the time. Camper is a Northstar Arrow (hardwall, no slides).

I had a 1999 SD F250 with Palomino 1251 popup. 5.4 gas and got 12 mpg traveling at 60 mph - empty this truck got about the same. wt. 8800.
Next was a 2004 SD F250 , same camper with 6.0 PS engine and got 14 mpg at same speed. Not much change when empty - never weighed this combo.
I currently have a 1996 F250 , same camper with 5.8 gas and get 10 mpg at same speed. unloaded get 12-14.
All trucks were super cab, current truck is long bed, others were short bed. All trucks have their good points and handle the camper well. I installed Firestone air bags on each. Have been all over the USA from Florida to Alaska and Maine to California. I live in the midwest- Garden spot of the world!

Thumbs up

We averaged 11.35 mpg on our 4K+ mile trip from NC to TX, NM, CO, OK and back this past spring, mostly cruisin' interstates and primary roads. The worst single-tank economy we saw was ~9 mpg driving uphill into a headwind in west Texas. The best was a bit over 12. I did use 89 AKI fuel in areas with long climbs, and never used below 87 AKI fuel, even in high-elevation areas. Interstate speed was typically ~65 mph. We used the AC liberally.

In the hope of improving fuel economy, I removed the TC’s four power jacks for the long trip. The jacks were individually packaged in ski bags and stored two-per-side over the rear wheel wells between the camper and the bed.

Our old truck was a 2017 F350 CCSB 4x2 6.2 3.73. The camper is a Livin Lite Camp Lite 6.8. I estimate GVW was a tad over 10K lbs.

The truck's empty fuel economy varied greatly. It tended to deliver 10-11 during short local trips in the winter, and as much as 17.66 (calculated) during a 500 mile autumn trip over to Nashville and back.

HTH,
Jim / crewzer

Truck is in signature. TC is a Host Mammoth which weighs about 5,400 pounds loaded. Highway mileage unloaded is about 11 mpg. Mileage hauling TC at average speed of 60-65 is about 8.5 mpg. Might could get close to 10 mpg if I could do 55mph everywhere but people don't like RV's going 10mph under speed limits around here.

Haven't tower a trailer behind it yet while hauling TC but I expect the mileage won't drop too much. The TC is humungous and is basically a giant sail.

That's a nice rig. I commented on your other pic where you were towing a boat, as well. What does your TC weigh fully loaded? We're at about 5,400 lbs in our Mammoth and are considering getting a side-by-side we'd tow behind as well. I've toyed with the idea of upgrading to an F450 but can't justify it w/o significant incentives and a PCO.

We just got back from a 5000+ mile trip to AK. We got about 11-12 MPG. Usually drove at 65 MPH when conditions allowed. Often at 55. Hauled a barrowed 2002 Adventurer 80W, Not a heavy camper, prolly a typical cross section, but somehow, we weighed in at 12,200 lb. when I got back into SLC. We had a ton of stuff for our river trip and others folks gear, but I'm still surprised we weighed that much.
Truck is a '15 F-350 CCLB SRW 6.7
