92-96 Bronco 460 swap and dually rear end.

I've got a few questions about 92-96 Broncos, I'm looking to get one as a semi daily driver, what are some things to look for? Another thing I am considering eventually swapping in a dually rear end and fenders (not many of those prowling the streets) and possibly swapping the stock engine to a 460 unless I can find one with it already. How "involved" would the work be? Something I somwhat of a shade tree mechanic or local independent mechanic can handle or would I need a lot of shop experience?

Experience as these never came with a 460 or a dana 60/70 rear end. The easy way may be a frame swap?

Finding a 460 in a 1 ton frame would be very good and if the bronco shell bolts up easy (which it probably won't) it'd be a good upgrade. I don't really need the 4x4, until of course I do!

Well I would imagine the 460 would be close to a "direct" swap IF you grab the wiring harnesses from a donor vehicle (engine bay and under dash wiring harness.)

The 7.3 bolted directly in on the passenger side, but the driver's side needed some holes drilled in the frame (only one hole was there). The wiring harness plugged into the existing chassis harness and harness for the rear lights etc. However, I did have to edit some wiring to get things working properly with my existing Bronco wiring. I would imagine swapping a 460 in would about the same amount of work as the 7.3 minus dealing with the fuel system (so less work overall.)

The generic shape of the frame between the F-350 down to Bronco are the same, so fitting a 460 in won't be a problem. You'll just have to figure out what to do with the suspension/transmission and wiring. Swapping in a dually rear end shouldn't be super hard, but making it look good will be a different story. I'm not the most fond of duallys, but if it's something you want, then by all means go ahead!

about that dually....

I'm all for modifying and customizing, it's your truck so do what you want to do etc.
but,,, the extra weight of a dually axle is going to overwhelm the rest of the truck. any pavement that isn't perfect is going to launch the rear of the Bronco.
if it doesn't work out you could always use it as a lawn roller.
