Todd, ya, we don't want to talk about how much this is costing.

I just got my shop cleaned up about a week ago. Realized I have a ton of money in parts just sitting in boxes. And my engine won’t get a fraction of the love you guys have yours! Especially Darin!

I hear that Todd. I've got most of my new parts laying in my living room in boxes yet. I can't wait to get really going on this thing.

I test fitted and measured the journals with the girdle on yesterday and took the block in for a line bore/hone today. The front 4 journals were between .0006 and .0009 out of round with it torqued on. The rear thrust journal was .0015 out of round. Spec is .00022 max, so definitely needs a line bore with it.

Did the different clamping load with the girdle and studs cause the out of round condition on your build? I have seen this before, not just on a 7.3 but other engines.

Yes it did. I checked it with the bolts before and the front one was perfect. 2,3,&4 were out
0002, within tolerance. 5 was still out .0008 though, so would have needed a line hone at least even with just bolts.

If I don't get aggravated and sell all my trucks and parts, I plan on building an engine for one of the trucks. I am anxious to see how this beast you are building performs. I'm like you Darin as far as what I do with my truck. I just want to be able to tow what I want how I want, and it be as dependable as possible. I guess the dependable part after all the mods we do is a crap shoot, but looks like you are hopefully on the right track to obtaining it. Looking good buddy! I don't get on here as much as I used to, but I will check in when I can and see how it's going. Can't wait to see this come together and see how she runs!

Build sounds exciting! Love me attention to detail. I assume you will have the rotating assembly all weight matched then balanced too?

More pictures please.

Yes. Everything will be balanced too. I will get you some more pictures once I have something worth taking pictures of. 😁👍Hopefully I will get my new rods and heads back by next weekend so I can get back to measuring. Supposed to pick up the block next Friday.

I sent my heads to them last week. They strongly suggested to fire ring the heads unless I can put a few thousand miles on it to make sure the stock head gaskets would seal before working it hard with those hybrids as I would be over 500hp with all my work. I won't be able to do that, so I broke down and sent them in to do it. I don't know if it was really necessary, but I'm doing it anyway. They will also get my valve recession perfect, along with a 3 angle valve job with new seats and guides. Main girdle should be here Thursday. I'm going to put it on and see how far the main bores are out of round, then take it in to get line bored/honed. Once I get the heads back from them, block back from my machinist, and my rods here, then I will be back at checking clearances again. Same place I was over 3 weeks ago. Then sending the pistons in for delipping and coating.
The biggest thing to remember on fire rings (I'm sure you already know) is hot retorque the studs before trying to run the engine too hard. I even like to retorque stock gaskets whenever possible even if it just means letting them sit a few days after torquing them and then torquing them again. I seem to get up to 1/4 turn pretty often after they sit a little bit. On new OEM gaskets I have gotten little more than 1/4 turn after 24 hours at times.

I would love this engine for my OBS so i could finally spray a little nitrous. Lol

Hey Travis. Thanks bud, I did already know that. I've been talking with swamps quite a bit, I will be doing it the way they do.

You need to get after building one yourself. You only live once, it's only money man.😁

Sounds good, I will trade you my weak one for a full build and give me your Jasper.

Glenn, you better let me start soon, to do this right takes forever.😲

I took it all apart again to clean and scrub the block, etc. Put it back together with the main bearings to measure my main bearing clearance. I like to have right around .003 on my race car motors, and am wanting about the same here. The lowest bearing to crank clearance was .0028 on number 1, highest was .0032 on number 5. That made me very happy. Once the rods get here I can do the same after I check them for roundness. (Better be round, new and too expensive).

Injectors are paid for, I sent mine in today. 200/30s is for sure what I'm doing. S366 sxe with a 1.0 housing is also ordered. Black Friday sales on both of these today. 👍. I debated on a 369, but talking with swamps they suggested the 366 with the 1.0.

Rods will be here next week along with getting my heads back. With any luck by shortly after the first of the year I should be assembling.

It sounds like I've been missing out Darin. This is a very exciting build I hope it turns out the way you expect
