Now my next thought. I've been thinking of going with full force diesel injectors. Don't get me wrong, Jim is a great injector builder, but full force offers a 180cc stock nozzle stage one where Jim just has the 160. They say 20-25 more hp than their 160. Now I would bet with all my mods it would be at least that for the same cost, and still have the stock nozzle to keep heat down. I haven't decided on this yet, wouldn't mind a little input from y'all.
Uhh, Why dont you just ask Jim what would be the best way to go?

He can probably make you 180's if you ask. Or he'll give you the best route to go to what you want. I know he has no issues with Casserly, so he will openly give you advice regarding that.

I've talked with Jim (first one I talked with), full force, swamps and many tuners, besides a whole lot of time researching online and talking with people with experience using different injectors and turbos. I'm going to go with a set of 200/30 hybrids and get the 366sxe with a 1.0 housing. I already have the .91 so I can change if it's too big. I really like the hybrid for the less use of hpo. Im tired of setting the 1211 pulling hard with the single shots.

I started mocking the motor up yesterday. I should be checking piston to valve clearance today. Then can get the pistons sent back to swamps for clearance work if necessary, delipping and coating.

Here's the only picture I took. I definitely have some clearance issues. Stock compressed head gasket thickness is .060, give or take .002. I had to put .105 shims in ( used valve spring shims instead of a gasket ) just to be able to turn the motor over, and then was still kissing the intake valve. Pistons protrude out of the block .035. My machinist said he only took .006 off the heads, nothing off the block. Also most of the valves aren't recessed in the head as far as I wanted, and the valve tips need to be trimmed. I wanted .050 intake and .055 exhaust. I got exhaust and intake as low as .038 varying up to .050. I might need shorter pushrods too. I won't know that for sure until the other things are sorted out. Then I have to recheck. I'm sure I'm going to need valve reliefs in the pistons, possibly shave the tops a little so they arent up so high. Maybe .010. Ug. I got a ways to go.
I also found a few rockers with hairline cracks. More ug.
That walk door you see in the background is the door to where I live.😁

Ok, I have a few updates. I ordered and now have a complete set of new stock rockers from riffraff. I've ordered a main girdle from swamps. I'm also getting a set of manley billet rods from them. I sent my heads to them last week. They strongly suggested to fire ring the heads unless I can put a few thousand miles on it to make sure the stock head gaskets would seal before working it hard with those hybrids as I would be over 500hp with all my work. I won't be able to do that, so I broke down and sent them in to do it. I don't know if it was really necessary, but I'm doing it anyway. They will also get my valve recession perfect, along with a 3 angle valve job with new seats and guides. Main girdle should be here Thursday. I'm going to put it on and see how far the main bores are out of round, then take it in to get line bored/honed. Once I get the heads back from them, block back from my machinist, and my rods here, then I will be back at checking clearances again. Same place I was over 3 weeks ago. Then sending the pistons in for delipping and coating.

Thumbs up

How well do the OE valves hold up?

My machinist seems to average $50/hole for two valve heads plus parts. Just trying to ballpark a more mild rebuild of my 7.3

The intake valves are usually pretty wore, and worse off than the exhaust. That's how mine was too.

More questions...

Anyone have a torque plate for these engines?

Is the camshaft the reason for the valve to piston issues?

Swamps has a torque plate. My machine work was done without one. I'm guessing there aren't a lot of them around. The cam definitely has some to do with the clearance, the valve recession not right has some to do with it also. We will see how much better it is once that part is right.

Todd, ya, we don't want to talk about how much this is costing.
