You are not wrong, and I would not feel good about it either. Jason swears by All Star Transmissions, that is why I recommended them to you.

As for filling it, I would fill with 6 quarts from the top after putting the drain and fill plugs in. Then grab a hand pump fluid transfer pump and pump Redline High Temp ATF into the fill hole until it is full. Run the truck up and down the road a few miles and recheck the fluid level from the fill plug. I would probably do this 2-3 times just to be sure that the case is full after it has been pumped into the lower radiator.

I used a very small amount of anti-seize on the threads of both plugs when putting them in to aid in removal in 30K miles.

F350-6 has the same philosophy in regards to the oil filter. Prior to plowing a nail in it to drain, make damn sure you can spin ur off

For anyone interested, I removed the fluid from the ZF6 in my truck and poured in 6 qts of the Redline High Temp ATF through the top. The old fluid was still very red and looked nearly new. The new fluid is performing well so far after only about 50 miles of driving though. The shifts are smooth and pop into gear easily. There was no gear roll over at all in the stop and go driving today, but there was not a lot of opportunity to be in too high of a gear at slower speeds. Only once was I in 3rd going around a corner at 20 MPH or so and that once there was zero gear roll over.

The Redline fluid appears to be a winner in my opinion.

Also, the insulator/shift boot combo made a big difference in heat transfer into the cab and even more of a difference in noise. Well worth the $60 spent on it.

The CSD T4 kit should be here early next week! Just waiting on the RiffRaff OCR and then the temperature to come down a bit before installing the SXE.

I told Akcooper9 yesterday I was thinking 2 days, maybe a bit more to install the kit. That is only because I will need to film/record so much of it to make it flow nicely. I might have to remove and re-install a part a couple of times just to get a good shot of it.

It will be here, trust me that it is harder for me to wait than it is for you guys. I have to see the parts in my garage every time I go in there!

Sous, I got to get to The Brads place and take a look at his. He's not that far I don't think. He helped me out once before. I really wanted the KC38R but now am really interested in this one. Just have to figure out how to get it smogged. You would think, it burns cleaner so there'd be no problem. Not that way here in Cali. We are looking to move, just got to get the wife to the cold county in the winter first. Not pushing, take your time. Will wait for pictures for sure.

My smog guy told me this spring that he looks for GARRETT stamped on the housing. The same shop also had no problem with my Turbomaster Wastegate Controller the prior two checks...but not this time. So who knows what it will be like 2 years from now.

If it's not listed here then you have to disguise it or hope for a "friendly" shop (which are harder to come by these days): https://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/afterm...ery-091517.php

Just a quick update on the fluid and boot choices.

The Redline High Temp ATF has been great. No gear rollover noise at low speed and shifting is very smooth and confident feeling.

The new boot for the shift lever has reduced sound in the cab by a small margin, but heat has been reduced significantly. There used to be a steady steam of hot air near the pedals, now that is gone.

Very happy with both so far.

Have not driven the truck much at all yet. Home from shop then across town to get the equipment trailer and back home. Possibly 20 miles. Tonight I'll load up a couple tractors and drop them off for a shew this weekend. 60 miles of back roads so lots of shifting.

From another thread a little update.

The new one is a nice smooth push with a little resistance so you know that you are going past first if that makes sense.

I am debating on sending mine back or rebuilding it and keeping it.

Truck is back to work hauling toys. This is from Wednesday. Shifting seems good but it was funny into second once. Time will tell.

No dripping. At the moment .... .. Oil cooler rebuild and new small shift boot seems to fix it.

How has the transmission been? You mentioned earlier there was a hiccup going into 2nd gear once, but other than that it was still too early to tell.

Knocking on wood it is good. I think I had problems 3 times. 2 times a kids foot was in my way and once I think I just oopsed. Been good since then. only about 960 to 1000 miles on it so far.
