Might be worth the money to pay a dealer to run it on their computers to get a health report. That is if you have a dealer that you trust to do it right.

It’s at a ford dealer, they’re suppose to run it through there service yet and do the safety inspection etc. said they’re backed up and haven’t been able to get it in yet. Supposedly Monday. I’m thinking I’m going to pick it up before then and give a really good going over and then see what they find compared to me. Thinking that will show how honest they are. I don’t know how much faith I have in them they are the dealer that worked on my first 6.0 when it was new 10 plus years ago and I had to tell them what was wrong with it. They told me I was wrong when I told them it was the dummy plugs based on research here on the forum and low and behold it was the dummy plugs. lol but ten years it could very well be a whole different set of mechanics now.

Well just got back from dealer and gave it a quick once over. Seems decent has a vibration or shimmy at 75on the highway. Scanned it and it gave me 4codes
p229e
p20ba
p20b9
po401

ones an egr (p0401) recognized that fr M my 6.0’s lol. The others appear to be DEF related with a really quick google search. Give me some input and in the meantime I’ll research that stuff tonight. Thanks

I believe most of those codes are related to the DEF system. Tank/pump/heater and probably injection system.

The EGR one will most likely be the EGR cooler is plugged.

I would want all that repaired before I bought the truck.

Research shows DEF and egr. Probably cooler as you say, and the others look like DEF heater and then nox. Haven’t researched the NOX one much yet. It will have to be fixed I think unless we reduce price accordingly. Thought maybe a good chance to delete but I am not sure I want or need to delete this truck. Although my wife says it’s too quiet lol.

If if I were to try and negotiate them down on price based on me fixing it, would this delete kit eliminate the issues that the codes I posted are causing?

Well new update, due to the miles the dealers not going to fix this and put it on the lot. So I can buy it as is fix or delete it myself or I can pay and have them fix it before buying. Obviously as is will be at a discounted price. If the egr cooler is plugged would that caused any other damage to the motor if it’s been driven that way for a while? What about def codes, same question. Will deleting it clear the issues or just mask problems?

doing a delete will no cause problems...if you use a tuner. The tuner will be needed.

EGR cooler issues are probably ok. You can take that cooler off and clean it you know.

When I do the egr delete will it remove the cooler? Or just make it irrelevant?

you can remove it if you buy the proper block off plates.

What impact is there if I leave it in place? One thing I noticed tonight when I took a quick look at it is the exhaust is disconnected after the dpf to tail pipe connection. But the connections in front of the dpf towards the motor is rusty and does not look like it's ever been touched.

I have the truck for the next day or so to look over everything. Let me know if there is anything in particular I should look at?

sounds to me like it is becoming too much of a hack job from someone, whether the previous owner or the dealer trying to cut a corner to get it sold.

I would not want it at this point unless repaired properly.

The exhaust situation is wierd, those bolts haven't been touched in years by the amount of rust on them and looking at it. I'm pretty sure the truck has never been deleted by looking things over on it. Not sure what direction I'll go. Going to have a friend who's a diesel mechanic look at it tonight.
