Nah, just sounds like somebody had a DPF back exhaust on it and removed the exhaust before selling the truck.

I don't know what's the situation with the exhaust. Not a real concern to me but puzzling it is. It will be going to scrap f something pans out on it any how. I don't see any reason to put emission stuff back on it just to give another item to present potential issues down the road. I like to keep things simple which is why I own two 7.3's.
