Shy away from Dennis Carpenter! They advertised this part as "Made in USA" when in fact it was "Made in China" and labeled as such. And their return policy is **** poor in favor of them, making you reluctant to return a part. There are better vendors out there, avoid Dennis Carpenter at all costs.

As you can see the "Styrofoam" float completely broke away from its housing. This happened after less than one month! For 60 bucks one would expect an actual brass float, not some cheap a$$ Styrofoam float from China.

Thanks for the link, next time I will have the factory unit rebuilt. It's just a shame we cannot get quality aftermarket parts in the USA anymore, everything is of inferior quality and from China.

I envy the generation of "hot rodders" past when you could still buy quality American made parts at your local auto store. Those days are long gone.

Case in point....I still have original factory Motorcraft ICM's (ignition control module) that work just fine even 40yrs later, but yet the cheapo Autozone replacements from China will burn up in 3yrs.

I miss the auto parts stores that had guys that actually knew what they were talking about. Huge books that could cross reference interchange parts etc.
Now if it isn't in the computer or if the computer doesn't say, they have no clue. Heck I feel lucky if they have a carburetor fuel filter in stock anymore.
I had to order mine online last time I needed one.

I miss those days too. The old counter guy had catalogs that spread six feet wide across the counter top. Now, it's just some kid on a computer asking "what's your OBD code".

I don't think its the chinese origin to blame but just greed aftermarket vendors that sell garbage at high prices. Lots of high end things are made in china but the american or european design is better.

Well, called DC this morning and they are sending out a replacement unit (after a bit of haggling) so kudos to them. I no longer need it as I swapped my old brass float onto the new sending unit, but I will keep it as a spare.

I bought my sender from JBG, it was the only one I could find that had a true 5/8ths fuel Barb. Brass float, stainless tubing, decent quality, but....made in China and required a bit of bending and tweaking to get it to fit right. In tank for a little over a month now, no problems.

It had a full brass float? The one I got from DC only had a small brass "cup" and the rest (3/4ths) of the float was some chinzy "Styrofoam" type material.

Full brass. It was crimped over, not brazed, so no telling what's inside or how long til it leaks and sinks, but, yes the sock oickup was cheap plastic epoxied onto the end of the tube, that was the only part that I didn't care for. That and having to bend it to fit.. Both the auto zone and Napa versions we're less quality, and only had a 5/16 fuel Barb. This was for the rear tank in a 77.

Hmmm, that's interesting. Mine was for the in-cab 19gal tank. All the vendors only offered one sending unit, all the same from China. The parts house like NAPA, Autozone, Checkers, etc., did not even offer it, so my hands were pretty much tied as to where to buy it from.

Why it did not have a full brass float is a mystery to me, instead it has some cheesy "foam" float. Being the hoarder I am I grabbed two brass floats from tanks at the junkyard this past Saturday lol. The highboy tanks are easy to access right behind the seat.

I believe the term coined around here is "Forder". (I think it was Rich that started it, but not sure.) Anyways, the line gets pretty blurred between Forder and smart when you have the part that you need to make it work.
