Yeah, I don't know what's going on with prices around here. I am thinking the used lot on a new car dealer just tries to mark up the cars more. Although, being at a Ford dealer might have some advantages if I can get it on the lift with a tech and the IDS computer.

 

The only factors you have to consider are the following...

1. How much are you willing to pay
2. There will be repairs needed, can you do them yourself
3. That is it...

It does not matter how much I would, or did pay because I found the exact truck I was looking for and drove 1200 miles to get it. I knew it needed things as I drove it away, but I was OK with that because it was a 2000 model year truck.

While we are typing our messages out to you, someone else is looking at that truck and might be buying it. If you see something you want and are OK with the price, jump on it.

 

Hell if I can get that much for mine with only 95k miles I will sell this sucker right now. Pretty much stock besides an aftermarket sound system and S&B filter.

 

Went to see that truck. It's legit in the sense that 1 person owned it and seemed to take care of it. I don't see any leaks. I don't know what's normal for blow by on a 7.3L but this had a very faint white smoke from the oil filler.

They claim to have to put 2K in service/parts into the truck at Ford dealer retail prices. Looks like they changed air/fuel filters, new batteries, and replaced an ICP sensor.

I asked them to justify the price because NADA and KBB don't go much over 15K for excellent condition - retail - accounting for the low mileage. They are saying it's market pricing. They are not going to go lower than a grand or so down from $20,000. This may be the going rate for a near perfect 7.3L with 90K miles, crew cab, F350 Lariat, etc.. But, for a few thousand more, I can probably get a much newer used gas truck albeit the sad part is they'll all have 100K miles at this price point.

Not sure I want to spend $18K for a 15 year old truck that could still very well have problems. There's no compression test, no fuel pressure test, or any diagnostics above what they do for a regular maintenance.

 

Condition is everything. I just put almost $10k into maintenance on mine, which included a complete rear axle rebuild after 300k miles.

 

look at the nada trade in value ... you have nothing to lose, offer them $ 8000 lol

 

Street value or realized value sometimes has nothing to do with what NADA or KBB says. It is worth what someone is willing to pay for it and 7.3's are going for more and more money everyday it seems.

 

KBB is worthless. I sell most of my vehicles for 30-40% above KBB. Nada is a pretty good "gauge" . I agree on these trucks, they are getting hard to find.

 

It was merely an example of "you cannot go by the book value". Any vehicle is worth what someone is willing to pay for it regardless of what the internet tubes tell you.

 

Its been over a month looking. Come to SoCal with 9500.00 and drive my truck home..
