Spongy Brakes

When I replaced my rear calipers, I made sure the bleeder was in the same orientation, facing down. I bled and bled, but the brakes are still spongy. When I did the front, I noticed the bleeder valve was on the top and noticed the front was much easier to make sure I got all the air out. Any idea if I have the rear on wrong? I'm on my way to pick up a power bleeder from HF now.

That’s going to be a nightmare then. Any idea why they were not on top from the factory? They’ve never been replaced.

Not unless you flip the vehicle upside down

I don't mean this to sound condescending but no, you can't bleed them from the bottom. You are basically filling it until it overflows(from the bleeder.) Air is lighter than brake fluid.

Since you mentioned them not being replaced, did you buy it new? There was a time frame where the rears had one mounted in the front of the axle and the other side was where it was supposed to be (behind the axle.) I think this was early, like MY2000, or some part of it. Someone could have used whatever they had available and installed the wrong ones (I'm way too tired right now to even try to visualize if it is even possible, let alone if the hoses/lines would even be able to connect.)

Did you have to specifically ask the parts store to get the orientation to match what you have?

I bought it when it was 3 years old. Full oasis and history since it was bought originally from the dealer and traded in at the same dealer, and that dealer had done all the service.

I just ordered left and right, they were different part numbers. When I put them on I matched the orientation, one was left and one was right. I swapped them, bled them, and all is well.

Glad you got it figured out.
I just got done doing all my pads and rotors and all of the rear lines. Wasn't too bad except for working in the heat.
