Just replaced back up switch after checking old one and determining it was bad via multimeter. While moving plug wire to plug into the new one, the lights, and consequently, the back up alarm came on, without being plugged in. I traced the wires to the top, jiggling wires until it stopped.

Now...I have a new pigtail on order, because the old one was in poor shape. Can I gain access to where it connects to the wiring up top by removing the shifter boot, or am I going to have to fly blind to get the new wires connected?

I have the pigtail for the back up switch, but the wiring goes to the top of the trans. I can't really see up there, and even if I pull the shifter boot, I'm not going to easily see where the wiring connects to the rest of it.

I almost need a small camera so I can see what the heck I"m doing to get this new pigtail connected.

Any advise on this would be greatly appreciated.

yes, by unbolting and removing the the trans cover you should be able to reach back and replace the reverse switch and pigtail.
i am not positive, but the switch may even be exposed once the cover is removed.
it has been 13 years since i had a trans cover off so i am a little rusty on exactly where the switch is in relation to the cover.

 

The two I have seen are on the driver side. Not sure about going at it from the bottom but it is plug and play and if you and access it from the bottom it will just slide in. The plug is red on the ones I saw. That would be easier that going through the top which is easy also but requires more time. Sandy
