D?TF-12127-ha dist vac advance
Hello all. New here. Having extreme difficulty finding a replacement vacuum advance for my 73 F-100 with a 390ci. I cant make out the 2nd character of the distributor. I’ve tried all light levels and angles. It is D?TF 12127 HA. It does have a vac actuated EGR valve and crankcase gases vented to the air filter, so maybe a CAL emissions model.. There is not a part number on the vac advance I have now except a “3”. While were at it, I cant find a vacuum reservoir either. Thanks in advance!

I'm sure NumberDummy here will chime in with all the known variations on the number. But in general terms, your '73 (if it's still the original distributor) would have a "D3TF" or lower number (such as a "D2TF...") unit. So try that first at least to see where it gets you.
Because Ford used that same distributor base for many years before and after your year, an earlier advance can could have still been in use on trucks. But because '73 was a "banner year" for smog stuff on some vehicles, it's also just as likely a new one was offered that year. Hence the assumption on my part it could be a D3 number (where "D" means the '70's and "3" means the year of that decade) easily.
Was it a single diaphragm unit, or a dual? I don't remember if 390's had duals or singles, so figured I'd ask.

I meant to ask too, whether or not you think the distributor itself is worth attaching a new advance diaphragm to, or if you should just replace the entire thing?
They do wear out (probably more often than just the diaphragm in some cases!) and a new diaphragm would come with any new distributor anyway. And that way you'd be dealing with a steadier and more reliable spark as well.
Of course, if your old unit is in perfect shape other than the advance, you're on the right path.
And regarding the numbers anyway, it's very likely that it was superseded several times over the years anyway. Adjustable, non-adjustable, single port, dual port, cone shaped, hex shaped, different characteristics in other ways, they should all fit the body at least. Well, I could be wrong on that score. I'm more familiar with the Windsor style, and not sure if the FE distributors were as consistent through the years. Or if they used any of the same components perhaps as the other engine family units did?
Good luck.

Vacuum reservoir for what, the EGR or the factory A/C?
D2ZZ-12370-A .. Vacuum Advance (Motorcraft DD-339) / Obsolete
MUSTANGS ETC. in Van Nuys CA has 1 = 818-787-7634.
KAMA OBSOLETE PARTS in East Bethel MN has 1 = 763-434-0123.
GREEN SALES CO. in Cincinnati OH has 7 = 800-543-4959.
This advance was also used on 1972 Mustang/Cougar, probably other cars as well, so it should be available from NAPA and etc.

The vac system starts at the intake manifold, goes to the vac reservoir then looks as though it goes to all the vac users. its on the left side just behind where the axle jack is stored. I didn't know the air conditioner had its own vac reservoir. at least I don't see it anywhere or looks obvious to me to be used for that reason.

I didn't know the air conditioner had its own vac reservoir (but that's what it's for!). At least I don't see it anywhere (oh yes you do! ) or looks obvious to me to be used for that reason.

Breakerless
just realized that it may be relevant info to say that it has a breakerless point unit in the distributor. The advance referenced for the year make and model does not clear the plate that does the movement to modify the timing. I’m striking out pretty bad at NAPA. Look for help again.

There's this: D4TE-12127-HA .. but it's for a 1974 F100/350 460 w/DuraSpark.
Look on the left fender inner apron for the DuraSpark module. If there isn't one, you may have a Petronix conversion that uses the original vacuum advance.
