No problem. That was not by way of saying they all suck, or that they all suck in all applications. In fact that was certainly an extreme case and may have had several contributing factors. But it was sure worth reporting!
My own does not give me any real issues that most would notice. But I've been driving these things a long time and I can tell how it makes the short wheelbase Bronco kind of track strange sometimes, and certainly with my excess tire-spin-ability I get those really cool powers slides.
Bronco drifting anyone?

But I'm totally on board if you want to try it out to see for yourself. Do that a lot myself.
As said, there are plenty of great result stories out there as well.

Good luck. And for sure let us know how you like both the gearing change and the addition of the locker.
I forgot already, but what wheelbase is your truck?

Well i actually just talked to a coworker and he convinced me to get an lsd (track lok or power lok). He builds high end rear ends and said he would only suggest a locker if you are offroading alot and want to deal with the annoyance of the locker. So LSD ill go

Ask him about the Truetrac then. No clutches to wear out over time, and therefor no special lubricants, or additives either.

IMHO TracLocks are barely better than open diffs. I would never actually pay to have one installed. If it came with the vehicle? Meh.

I may have overlooked something in this thread but I'll write it anyway; If you change the gear ratios in the rear you will need to change the front to operate in 4wd. I guess from what you wrote the front is non-operational for now?

You will definitely like the change to the 4:10's with 33" tall tires. I also have a Dana 60 rear & a 44 front with 4:10's in both. I wish I had the 3:54's so the truck would be more comfortable on the freeway. As it is (30 or 31" tires) I don't take it on the freeway. I rarely take it to 60 m.p.h..

Dennis,

where are you located? I would be interested in trading gears/carriers with you if you are close. I believe for a dana 44 there is a case split sonewhere between 3.54 and 4.10.
I already have the rear gears but id give you my rear gears (3.54) since i wouldnt have any use for them after i swap.

my front diff is disconnected since i have lockout hubs but i still have a np203 (full time tcase) which will soon be replaced with a part time case when i do my trans swap.
let me know

I am a little south of Detroit. A few years ago I would've jumped at the chance to have different gearing, I even considered shelling out the $3000+ for the Gear Venders O.D. unit. Now, I'm actually considering selling it (79 F-350 4x4) since I have 2 other vehicles to drive to work and around town. I'm guessing that anyone who buys it would probably appreciate the 4:10 gearing. I love the old truck but the suspension is a little tough to bounce around in. And I think my knees almost hit my chin when I'm seated in it (regular cab).
