Upper oil pan leak

I had a similar trans leak that I think was coming from the vent on top. My level always ran just under half when hot from the factory. When I changed my fluid I was a bit above half, and experienced the “leak” after towing my TT. I drained about a cup, cleaned the case and it never came back. Where is your level on the dipstick? Have you added any trans fluid?

First time I took my truck in it looked similar to that. They cleaned the area and put die in the oil and didn't see any active leaks. Fast forward one year and 10k later the leak was worse so I took it in a second time. This time they were able to spot a leak at the "T seam" where the upper oil pan meets the front cover. They replaced front cover seal, upper oil pan gasket and checked the upper oil pan for any warping that could cause the leak to return.

I have been looking at other 2017 and up SuperDuty. That’ are parked in parking lot. So far five out of eight had upper pans that look like mine. One had a good a drip the the other two where bone dry I think they where 19. I think the reason they don’t fix when they are not dripping is because there are to many people waiting for the fix.

I guess it’s my turn. I had read some of the posts about an upper oil pan leak. My 2016 F350 has 32,000 miles on it and has developed this leak. It goes in Monday to be fixed at the dealer under warranty. This leak must be a more common than I had been led to believe .They are going to loan me another truck to tow with. This time of the year I tow a horse trailer usually twice a week. I would only hope that this leak does not reoccur later in the trucks life. This is the first time it has been back to the dealer since purchased almost 2 years ago. It bothers me a little bit that they have to remove the transmission and transfer case to get at the upper oil pan. I guess I’ll get an oil change free on this one.
It books in as a 9.5-10 hour job because the tranny needs to be dropped to access that area.
It definitely huts the wallet, but beats cleaning up sooty oil spots in the driveway. BTW - Laquer thinner, wire brush and elbow grease will remove it followed up with a pressure wash rinse.

It happened again. I just got back from a 3500 mile trip with the upper oil pan leak and a leaky main water pump. It has been 10,000 miles since my last upper oil pan repair. This time they are looking for a warped upper oil pan and or misalignment with the front cover on the engine. The Ford hotline told them to look for that particular problem. My. 2016 F350 now has 43,500 miles on it and for the second time it will be in the shop for several days while they fix this problem. The dealer has again give me a F150 to drive. Hopefully they will get the leak fixed for good this time. I’m beginning to get a little discouraged. This is the time year that I pull a horse trailer a lot and need a heavy duty truck.
