Question about doing zoodad mod on V10

I'm going to cut the hole on my 05 V10 Ex and I have a question. Most pictures and videos I have seen didn't show a flexible (rubber?) Cover that needed to be removed in order to cut through the side support by the radiator. Do I just cut away the top part of that cover which would block the opening I need to make and leave the lower half in position? Also what is that black piece that appears in the opening of that cover? Is that some sort of air sensor? Thanks.

I hope you understand more about pressure differentials, air flow and volume then the clown that popularized the “zoodad” mod because all it does is get your air filter soaking wet in the rain.

And yes that sensor is the outside air temp. Cutting a hole in that’s rubber mat will reduce the amount of air flow and cooling to your radiator and transmission cooler.

Thanks for the input pirate. I may not know that much about air flow and pressure differentials as much as others. But I went ahead and cut a small 2.5" hole in the plastic support in front of the opening to the Volant air intake box. The rubber flap isn't robbing any airflow from the A/C condenser and I'm putting some closed cell foam to seal along the edge where the rubber flap was at the upper half to deal similar to what the flap did. The only loss of airflow would be from the additional opening I made to the filter. The middle cross bar of the grill prevents direct flow to the opening I cut so rain water should not get through easily plus I have a hydrophobic pre-filter cover to put over the filter. Driving in heavy downpours for an extended period of time at highway speeds may cause some ingestion of rain water but according to many on the site they have been running this way for years without water intrusion issues.

The only thing that hole accomplished was allowing air to bybass your radiator, well that and exposing your air filter to potential water intrusion.

Just did a search on that MOD, as I never heard of it, and turned up this.
