I have the lariat package with the 360 camera system. I have a 6 place bike rack on the back of the truck, and when fully loaded it makes for tight maneuvering in parking lots, and with 50K+ in mountain bikes in the back, I'd hate to make a mistake. The issue is the bike rack when loaded makes it damn near imposible to use the rear camera with any reasonable sense of depth of field.
So I'm thinking of mounting Ford's optional trailer camera to the bike rack so I can have a clear rear view when I am loaded with bikes. Does anyone know id the trailer camera would still work without having the vehicle register that a trailer is attached?
Yep. Plug it in, zip tie the 40 ft of cabling out of the way, and you’re good to go.
unfortunately you’ll have to select it every time you’re in reverse, as it won’t automatically come on, but at least you can see.
side question, as I try to mentally picture a 6-bike rack on the back of the truck - why not put them in the bed? I've seen some really nice ones (and built some less nice ones) that keep the bikes organized and secure in the bed. Is that not an option for you, or you just prefer the rear mounted one?

It's a pain in the *** to get them in and out of the bed when you are doing 10-15 shuttle laps a day. They get beat to crap if you use the tail gate pad method, so I use a rack from North Shore Bike Racks : A bike rack by mountain bikers, for mountain bikers. Not to mention I also have a truckboss sled deck that pretty much stays on the truck year round.

Now, if you leave this rack installed for longer periods of time, this may be a better option. Fully automatic (replaces the tailgate camera). Just crawl under and disconnect tailgate cam, plug this one in, then you never have to select it (and the 360 still works) Ford SuperDuty Around-View & 360 Camera Relocation System
Also remember seeing a post of someone that added a secondary camera like you did, but wired it to the tailgate camera with a switch.. so when you've got the rack on, you switch the switch to that camera, and when the rack isn't there, you turn the switch off and the normal camera is used..
Heck.. wish that automatically would happen with the trailer camera.. I have no use for the tailgate camera when I have 30ft of trailer behind me.

that’s perfect! Just need to find the proper pig tails to make a switch for it.
As soon as I get some other things resolved, I plan on adding this to my set up. Simply unplug the tailgate camera from the harness and plug this one in. Presto- a camera you can use for your bike rack or the back of whatever you tow.

that’s a nice solution if you don’t have the 360 camera system. With the 360, it won’t work.
