Anyone running a DC Power HD alternator AND Mishi CAC tubes/boots

I was looking at Ficmrepair's alternator offering, and pages for both of the DC Power HD alternators have notes warning about the extra depth of the case that may cause interference with aftermarket CAC tubes and boots.

Of course the XP series doesn't have the extended case issue, but I'm not dropping $650 on an alternator, so any info regarding fitment is appreciated.

Just call them and if they have not tried that setup I bet they may be willing to check it out.

One would think Ed would chime-in here if he had an answer.

I left a message in Ficmrepair's general mailbox yesterday afternoon. Still waiting for a reply. I would call but then I'm going to end up spending too much money!

I happened to be on the phone today during my drive to Portland OR.
I managed to only spend $0.00 but I now have a place to spend anywhere
from $60ish to over $300ish Aluminum Degas tank is not cheap and the
plastic one I have right now is no longer see through. So I have to pick
which one I want to go with. I should of grabbed the scratched one I had
seen on CL here about 6 months age. The price was nice even with the scratch
in the powder coat. The welding looked sort of half-assed. But I should
of grabbed it. You know the drill. Should Of, Could Of, Would Of, But Didn't.
And now I am the sad one.

Any-who I asked Scott about the setup and he said a small alternator and
large CAC is fine or a Large alternator and small is also fine. The problem is
the very large alternator from DC Power and the large CAC from Mishimoto.
They don't play together at all.

EDIT : You know the ideal thing to do would be to weld in a threaded bung for
a pressure gauge and supply a machanical guage with the second needle that
acts as a high memory pointer as an optional add on. If you don't need or want
it then a threaded plug that is the same color as the tank.

My DC 195 was tight with my stock tubes. They had to be turned exactly right to get clearance. If the Mishi's are oversized then you might have a problem. Just give them a call and they can tell you what issues you will have. They are great to work with.

I know everyone here loves Ed and I'm not trying to bash the guy. I spoke to him a few weeks ago and was very impressed with his knowledge of these trucks; something you don't find in very many salespeople. And he is a great salesman, he makes you want to buy everything! My issue is my own, it's to do with a lack of self-control.

I broke down and called. The DC Power HD series alts are a no go with the oversized Mishimoto CAC pipes. I told Ed that I sent an email two days ago and never got a reply and he was apologetic and promised to "shake things up" around the office.

On another note, Ed said he only offers 3 alternators that are compatible with AGM batteries: The Leece Neville, the DC Power 250 amp HD series, and the DC Power 270 amp XP series. IIRC he said the voltage regulators in all the others are set at 14.9v which is too high for AGMs and will cause them to degas. I'm kinda surprised I haven't read anything about that in the plethora of battery threads around here.

I have brought that up quite a few times and most just blow me off about it.
AGMs have a different charging curve. If you want it to give the longest life you have to go by that.

Sounds like a good topic for a new thread. It's obviously not going to get much traction in this one.

I have the Leece Neville AND changed the batteries over to AGM. Pure luck that they were compatible.Never thought of it.

Usually does not work that way for me..

People are using the AGM along with stock 140a alternators. Anything over 14.5v is going to play tug of war with the GPCM as people with the L-N often know.

Jack I have not run into this "tug of war" issue- what are the symptoms?
Are these common with the Optima batteries or all AGM?

I'm running these: https://www.batteriesplus.com/produc...iesel/sli65agm

This is good info
Thanks
