You can clean it with ammonia. Just be careful with the seals --particularly on the metering valve (front) end if it. There are no seals reproduced to replace them if damaged.
Brake cleaner or flush with Denatured alcohols that don't leave any oily film.
Then pour a little brake fluid inside as you put it back together.
