I have a 2000 F-250, with a 7.3 diesel in it. The truck is relatively new to me and I had the hood up to get the jack pieces out. The motor was running and I noticed steam/smoke coming from under a cover that said "danger or shock" on the top left hand side of the engine that is under the air intake pipe.. It didn't have any smell to it what so ever. If you revved the engine, it would disappear, but as soon as it was back at idle, it came back. I have attached two pics of the location. If anyone can help I would really appreciate it.
That is your CCV....Crank Case Vent.....it removes gases from the crank case and returns them to the intake. There should be 2 O rings under that to seal it against the rocker cover, you remove the 2 screws and that cover to access. My guess is one of the o rings is bad letting gasses and oil leak by.
The electrical shock warning is for I believe the wiring harness under the valve cover?
No. When you decide to replace the o-rings get them from ford as they are specially o-rings. There are two under that breather assembly as well as 2 small ones that seal the bolts.
