2005 E250 shuts off when coming to stop.

Wondering where the IAC is on the E250.

My van van keeps shutting off when I come to a stop. The RPM drop below 500 and it shuts off. The brake light comes on. So does the check gauge light and the battery light as well when it shuts off. Could it be the distributor cap is not adjusted? I want to check if the IAC is dirty but I can’t find anything online for the e250. Anyone know where it’s located?

Welcome to FTE.

If you have a Check Engine Light you need to get the codes read. Period.

Distributor cap....Your engine doesn't have one.

You should find a trusted shop with the proper code reader.

Thanks. Would you know where the IAC is located?

4.6 V8? This is for an F150 but that valve can't be too far different in a van.

The iac is a good guess for your problem but reading the codes is usually a better first step.

Good luck.

You need to completely and explicitly identify what you're working on including engine and transmission. There are variations.

05 E-series gas engines don't have IAC valves, you don't have one, won't find one, and it cannot be the cause of your issues.

Is there a heavy wire connected to the alternator B+ terminal (that's the red thing that is standing up behind the alternator's housing). Can't tell from the photo whether or not anything is there, just see the nut and (presumably) washer. Alternator looks new. What is the history of this thing?

Thanks. I did not know that. Yeah I definitely want to go somewhere to plug her into a computer but I’m afraid to drive and get stranded out on the road. It already happened yesterday. Waiting on a friend to bring me his portable boost pack so I can atleast be able to make it back home if it does happen.

I noticed that if I put it on neutral and just rev it up while I’m stopped, I can keep the engine on. If I don’t do this, it shuts off on a stop half the time.

Brief history:

I Took the car to get a full tune up and a few days later, the engine started shutting off at stops. I was a little busy working so I managed to drive it like that a for a day before I was going to take it back to the mechanic that tuned it. Mysteriously, the problem went away for about a year. It stated happening again and I took it to the neighborhood mechanic who changed the alternator and the problem went away. It’s been probably 4 month later and now the engine is shutting off at stops and killing my battery.

Heres a better picture of the alternator.

I went to a Advanced Auto Parts and they tried connecting a computer to it and the guy said it wasn’t working. That my port is probably bad. Great!
