54 f100 Fordomatic

New to the group, just purchased a 54 F100 with a 239 engine and a fordomatic trans, good starter project, was curious though as this is the first auto trans truck ive seen in this vintage, can anyone tell me roughly how many auto trans trucks were built in 54

Hi Reese, welcome to FTE the best Ford truck Forum on the world wide web!

I don't think anyone knows how many Ford trucks were automatics from the factory. We did know that 1953 was the first year that Ford put fordamatics in trucks.

Please show us pictures of your truck, tell us your trucks history, and tell us where you are from.

I think Mid-Fifty has that information in the back of their catalog. I want to say that it was right around maybe 10% of the trucks they built each year from 53 to 56. But I could be way wrong. I will look in the back of their catalog later today to get you maybe a better number more accurate number.

That's in good shape. That's the original herringbone pattern woven vinyl used only in 54.

I would SWAG the survival ratio of Fordamatics to sticks would be low. Just about anyone could tear into and fix a stick but not so much with the automatic.
Edit: Excuse my bad manners but welcome to the forum. That looks like a nice find.

Thanks for the info, I'm excited to get the engine running to see if the trans is any good or if ill have to rebuild it also. Actually talked to the second owner today and found out her grandad bought the truck new in northern oklahoma and she bought it from him in 1980

Thanks for the reply, is there anyone in the USA that can replicate that to rebuild the base as it is in terrible condition compared to the back

Yes there is, or soon will be. I bought NOS 1954 seat fabric from SMS for my 54 in 2016. In talking with the owner he said he will be reproducing this woven vinyl material. Here is their web address: https://smsautofabrics.com/?gclid=Cj...RoCVcMQAvD_BwE

Here is my seat
