First oil change 5.0

First oil change 5.0
So I’ve always thought that the first oil change would be better to do at around 3,000 miles. I have 2700 on my 2018 right now. But the ford service tech said that the break in oil is very important and to change it at 5,000. I’ve read a lot of people saying that the break in oil gets dirty quick and they change it at 2-3000. What do you guys think?

Break-in oil = Snake Oil in my book. These engines aren those of yesteryear. That said, I believe metal particles and filings in the oils from a new engine are most detrimental. I have always changed the first between 1500 and 2000, depending on use. Because I was taking a trip recently, I did my first change at about 1500.

...I let mine run to 5000 miles before first oil change. However, if you feel better changing it sooner, then go for it. Just keep in mind the type of oil you use, because some oil Manufactures do NOT recommend adding synthetic prior to 5k miles. One that comes to mind is Royal Purple API labeled oils. Just double-check with oil manufacturer site for piece of mind.

Changed my wife's 2017 3.6L Pentastar at 2000 miles and after the oil analysis I wish I had done it at 1000. Changed my 2018 5.0L Coyote at 1000 miles and after the oil analysis I wish I had waited at least 2000 (if not longer).
Bottom line, there is no one absolute correct answer. Do what makes you feel good.

Unless Ford has started putting special break-in oil jn these motors (check the manual), there is no such thing with these motors. The internet is full of rumors and miss-information about what works best, including oil cycles and types. There isn’t any proven (with evidence) sequence to go through.
For example, I have a good friend that is on his second F-150 with 150,000+ miles (5.4ltr). The dealership does all maintenance and I think he changes the oil when the light comes on...or maybe within a few weeks of the light coming on. His idea of break-in is buying a truck, dropping a pallet of stone in the back and going to work.
I chose to change my oil no later than 3,000 miles to get the break-in metals out. But that is just personal preference.

Follow the iolm. It works. And you have warranty. Why change it sooner then required especially when you are under warranty? If something were to fail (very unlikely to be caused by oil) then you are covered anyways. Use synthetic oil if you want to feel better about it. Change it when it tells you to. That’s what ford wants you to do. And they will cover the engine for 8 years and 150k miles with their extended warranty. You can’t go wrong.

If changing the oil super early makes you feel better, by all means do so. It's your truck and your money, but don't expect the engine to care. It'll likely outlast the rest of the truck as long as you at least follow the recommended interval, which can be as high as every year/10,000 miles.
