Toy hauler height

We are looking at upgrading our travel trailer to a bumper pull toy hauler. We want to be able to put kayaks and bikes in the back mostly. The problem I’m running into is how tall they all are. The way our property is laid out, I have to go under an 12 foot high electrical service wire.

Does anyone know know of a toy hauler that is low enough for that?

It's going to be difficult to find one that short. My bumper pull toy hauler is tall, but not quite as tall as a fifth wheel. Take the Desert Fox for example, it's 13'0".

It would, in my opinion, be better to have the electrical service raised to a 15' minimum over the roadway if possible. That way you can buy whatever you'd like and have no worries about interfering with the electrical service.

It makes me nauseous to even think about the cost of that...

im still hoping. We don’t have any trouble with regular travel trailers.

Is this a line that you are responsible for? Or, would it be the power company that has responsibility? If it's the power company then contact them and get them to raise it. Without knowing your situation I wouldn't have a clue what it would cost to raise a line.

It’s the line that runs from the power pole to the mast on my house. I’m not really sure who owns it. I might give the power company a call. All they can do is laugh me off....

Normally, the power company is responsible for the "drop" (the line coming from the pole to the house) and the home owner is responsible for the riser or upright that their line is connected to. In a normal situation (it may vary from power company to power company), you would have to pay to have the electrical service at your house end raised up.....a higher mast going up. It would certainly be worth checking into as far as I'm concerned!

You would have to have an electrician raise the mast, or go underground with that line.
In Mpls Mn its $350 +7.00 ft for the power company to bury the line and reconnect. I would
redo that line either way, it sounds low...

You might check ATC toy haulers. I’ve only seen photos but they look similar in height to traditional travel trailers to me.

I have a Grey Wolf 26RR that comes in at 10'6". I use it to haul our generator, quad, and a dirtbike currently. I have placed 2 quads and 3 bikes in it before.

Those ATC trailers are way cool, but I think out of my price range.

They grey wolf 26RR I looked at. It doesn’t have a hapijack bed. How comfortable are the dinette benches as beds?

I have the HappiJac bunk (just one) in my toy hauler. I prefer sleeping there than the dinette or couch "beds". You can upgrade the mattress in the HappiJac but you're stuck with how the dinette/couch comes from the factory.

The Grey Wolf 26RR has a queen bed for my wife and I. The dinette bed would just be for our daugter and maybe a friend. I’m just wondering if they are actually functional for sleeping on.

If they're anything like mine they are OK. A thin mattress pad like you would use in a tent helps improve the comfort. Do tour the trailer with the beds up and down. When in the down position try to walk through the trailer. In mine, with both dinette and couch beds down there is a very narrow walkway between them.

Happijac beds are only going to be in the taller TH's that are probably too tall for what you are looking for.

The bed in back is more comfortable than you would think. My 3 kids (13, 11, 8) sleep on it with no complaints. I've slept on it and actually got a decent night's sleep. We currently full time in this camper, so I know a lot about it.....let me know if you have any more questions.
