1954 239 Throtle linkage picture

Does anyone have a picture of 54 throtle linkage where it hooks up to the carb? I’m interested to compare mine to others.

Thanks,
Chris

Thanks Abe! Mine is the same as your 55. Not sure if that means anything or not. Are both of your trucks 250’s? Both Auto?

I think mine mine might be a Cleveland motor so maybe that explains why it matches a 55.

I got a new rebuilt carb from Dennis Carpenter but of course they don’t have one for a 1954 truck so I got one for a 1954 car but the linkage on the carb is off so I swapped my old base onto the new carb so the throttle linkage would work.

Thnaks Again!

Chris

Abe, while I have your attention. What gears do you have in your trucks and what’s your cruising speed and high cruising speed?

Arent they both the same?

Both my engines are 239s. There wasn't a 250. My 54 is a Cleveland Foundary engine too.

My 54 F100 has the stock standard 3.92 rear end. I can cruise at 60 to 65 mph, or so says my speedo.

My 55 F350 has the optional 5.83 rear end unfortunately. The standard F350 rear was the 5.18. My cruising speed in this truck is about 55 mph. It can go faster if I have to but don't like to do it for an extended period of time.
Here is a picture of my 55 speedo

thanks I need to take a closer look at my gear set today, the glovebox tag says 4:86:1 but I believe there is a tag on the rear which says otherwise.

Abe- any idea why your one truck has the thick gasket between the intake and carb and the other looks to have a standard gasket?

i have the thick gasket but I think it might be leaking so I’m thinking of replacing it with a standard gasket that’s available today.

thanks for your help!

The PO must have put it on to prevent gas from boiling or evaporating from heat from the manifold.

My throttle control on my on my 55' F350 is on the drivers side of the carburetor. That's what yours looks like Abe but I do not see a cable attached to it. I guess what I am saying is the accelerator is on the passenger side and the manual throttle control is on the drivers side. Sorry can't find no pictures

Here is a picture of the manual throttle cable attached to the carb on my 55 F350. Now I'm not sure what 54 Wrecker wanted to see.....

Sorry Chris I didn't mean to confuse the issue. But some of these trucks had manual throttle control. Does yours? Just curious, did the rebuilt carb you got from Dennis Carpenter have the manual throttle control that is on the driver side of the carb? Thanks for the picture Abe. Can't believe I didn't take a picture of the carburetor before I removed it. Now I hope I can figure how it goes back together. LOL

No worries! I’ve been curious about the hand throttle my self.

i don’t think my truck has a hand throttle although it does have a extra cable but I think it was for a heater shut off valve.

the carb I got from Dennis Carpenter does not have the correct linkage for a hand throttle, it’s actually for a 54 Car. That is the closest carb match they have to a 54 truck.

The carb runs great but the throttle linkage is wrong so I need to rig something up or get my old carb rebuilt. Jensen the reason why I started this post.
