Main Battery Cable Replacement – Seeking help on negative side.
Hello All,
I have a 1999.5 7.3 and I’m replacing the main battery cables because mine were shot. I have the main positive to starter cable(s) replaced with an OEM cable.
I’m running into difficulties on the negative side.
My current negative battery cable is clearly not OEM -- it is one piece going from the driver’s side battery, to the passenger side battery, and then to the frame and was created by a previous owner. I ordered a replacement negative cable and I thought it was the wrong part because it was way to small to connect to both batteries. I learned that it is actually just the passenger side cable and I also need a driver’s side cable that is on the way.
Google isn’t helping me tonight. Does anyone have a DIY or other information on how to replace the stock OEM negative main battery cables?
Assistance is appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike

Good info in the thread above. Stock negative cables go from the battery’s to the front of the block. There is a bolt on driver side and one on the passenger side they bolt too. Make sure the attachment point is clean of grease and crap. Also put a star washer behind the cable so when it is tightened it has a good “bite” or connection.
