Happy to report the issues seem to be totally self inflicted, but resolved and still running good.

“Premium “ oreileys igition module died on me yesterday. Truck shut off like i turned off key. Luckily in a parking lot. Put my spare wells from circa 2002 on and runs perfectly again. Went by the oreilys that previously insisted they couldnt test ignition modules and miraculously an old machine must have appeared in the back and they are now able to test them. All of the replacements on the shelf tested bad. Took one anyway in hopes i can swap for a good one later down road.

Its seems the motorcraft is now chinese junk. Anyone have a source for NOS motorcraft ignition modules or another reliable brand that wont leave me stranded every 5000 miles?

When did Motorcraft start making junk chinese ICM's? I need to know since I only trust Motorcraft for cooling and ignition systems.

Your best bet is the junkyard. I have bought several at $10 a piece.

We assume you are using thermal compound on the back of those ICMs? Dielectric grease is not the same thing.

The thermal paste is the white stuff right??

replacement dizzy came with it on the icm. The wells i just put on had it as well.

the dielectric is the clear stuff right? Some of the icms came with that, so not knowing i used it.

Before i install the motorcraft unit im going to pickup a pack of thermal paste at parts house.

what purpose does the paste serve? Transfer heat to distributor?

Clearish, yes. It's not really a recommended product for transferring heat. Some vendors use it because it is cheap.

Wise idea.

Yes, it is used to transfer heat to the distributor, which has it's caveats. That's why Ford moved the ICM to a remote location with a dedicated heat sink in 1992.

Yes it is. Even my Haynes manual states to use Dielectric grease. Luckily rla2005 cleared that misconception up for me years ago.

man, thermal paste is hard to find around here,
Right now with work my time is limited, after stopping at 3 parts houses (including local napa distribution center) I caved and ordered two tubes on amazon. If there was a Fry's close by that was going to be my next try.

Usually a computer repair place will have thermal paste. Just depends on where you're located.

I'm surprised that the module's don't come with thermal paste. Well, I shouldn't be. Half the crap is JUNK from the parts store anyway. I just bought the entire module and heatsink at the junkyard.
