The Complete Book of Classic Ford F-Series Pickups: Every Model from 1948–1976

I was thinking about buying this book, but have read some reviews that say it contains inaccurate information. Thoughts?

I've seen a couple of these - and received one (Ford Truck Chronicle) and wouldn't recommend any of them. In comparison, the Early Ford V8 Club work on a number of model years/models are my gold standard for documentation. Sadly, nothing similar exists for the 48-56 trucks, to my knowledge.

Thanks, DW, I was afraid of that. It would be nice to have a good standard as well as a "Buying an F-Series Ford Truck" book.

I was thumbing through the preview pages on Amazon. Some of the reviews are pretty harsh about having a lot of incorrect information in it. On the other hand, I see a lot of great original photos, prototype pics, sales brochures and advertisements that are highly interesting and entertaining. If you're looking for the definitive fact book, this may not be it, and you'll probably never find one. But for general information and a collection of historical documents, it may be worthwhile if you can filter the good from the bad. And, of course, if there's something there that just doesn't sound right, there's a bevy of 'experts' here than can probably write several books and set the record straight. Occasionally, a thread that can stir conversation is always fun. Maybe it's worth a shot.

Thanks, Wayne. I think I'll get it. Maybe there'll be a Second Edition in the future.

Being Walter Mitty the dreamer I think this will be an excellent book. The pictures alone will take you to new places...

I don't think there is a book or manual out there that is 100% accurate. Buy and read it for the enjoyment. Just be careful about making claims based on any one source.

It's kinda like science - this is our best understanding of the situation until more detailed data is available. Conclusions are subject to change...

Lots of the sales brochures are available that provide good detail but no coffee table books that I have seen.

You're looking at the most definitive source for information about these trucks. Seriously...….I'm not joking. I've purchased those books, and I've sat in a lot of bookstores and libraries and read the other books that I haven't purchased. Many, many mistakes and other inaccuracies. I finally realized this particular forum has the world experts on 48-56 trucks. Period. If you want a nice coffee table book, go ahead and buy it. But if you're wondering which direction the inner door handle pointed, how long the ground cable was, or where exactly the red stripe was on the upper grill bar, I recommend you check here or start a new thread and ask.

I "flipped" through the sample pages on amazon a few minutes ago. It's one of the better books I've seen. I'm sure you'll enjoy it.
