Losing half my cylinders intermittently

ok so my truck would start last week so after some tests I found a bad IDM. Replaced it and bam truck started and ran great. Then after a day the truck lost 4 cylinders when I floored it. Then it happened a few more times so I figured I gotta bad IDM. New IDM did the same thing I can feel my passenger header get warm and the driver side is hot while its misfiring. So now I’m thinking I gotta injector drawing too much current and IDM is shutting down a bank. I ohms checked from the valve cover and got about 3.8 ohms On all 8 with truck still hot. But don’t know if that’s a valid number since the power wire is shared to two injectors.

Have you checked the UVCH harnesses yet? Notice any burnt pins? Dads truck did something similar a couple years ago. Ended up with a new set of valve cover gaskets, under cover wiring and valve cover plugs. The issue was the valve cover gaskets, but we re did everything while we were there

Well at the IDM connector everything looked fine and on the valve cover pig tails looked fine too. On the inside though I’m not sure

drivers side VC where the wiring goes over can cause a wire to break

testing it with meter isn't easy since it will be ok under you wiggle the wire to find the open or short

Yep I did that at all the valve covers and got 3.7-3.9 ohms

I had a similar issue, it was the valve cover gaskets and under cover wire harnesses.

also check your main engine harness on top i had a bad one on a truck and it would drop injectors

Alrighty so last night i grabbed my good volt meter and leads from work and did that ohms check from the IDM and all checked good until injector 7. So I messed with the wires and no change so I took off the valve cover and then my numbers kept changing. So long story short I replaced the valve cover then everything tested good. Buuuut the truck dropped cylinders again on my way home . So the only thing I can think of was switching to the back fuel tank that I run straight diesel. The front tank I run my home made atf diesel. So we’ll see how that goes cus I’m out of ideas

If the numbers kept changing while you were messing with the valve cover then I would suspect a bad valve cover gasket

It was a dorman. Only one in stock. I double checked the ohms after I installed it and got better numbers

My truck did something kinda, sorta like this when I was driving it out of a flood. Mud boat mode. I know it will do it again someday, probably at the worst possible time.

I hooked up Forscan at the time and got codes but I didn't save them. Didn't know any better.

I think you could fix your truck if you could see now what I saw then. I bought an OBDlink MX Bluetooth adapter and downloaded Forscan for free.

I'm never going to become an expert with Forscan but I would be totally lost without it. Forscan and the guys from this forum are the only way I can deal with my truck and its computerized injection system.
